Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to provide technical leadership and process engineering stewardship across the full project lifecycle from concept selection through detailed engineering. The role supports projects ranging from conventional oil and gas, SAGD, gas processing, energy transition, and more.

The successful candidate will act as a senior process lead and technical reviewer, and be accountable for the quality, integrity and completeness of process engineering deliverables. This is an Edmonton or Calgary based position and reports to the Process Engineering and Technical Safety Manager.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as process lead, discipline technical authority, or senior reviewer on projects of varying size and complexity, from concept development and feasibility studies through FEED, detailed engineering, construction support, commissioning, and start-up.
  • Provide technical knowledge and leadership to design, execute and validate all process engineering deliverables.
  • Own the process engineering scope for the project, ensuring that schedule is maintained and all deliverables adhere to the project quality requirements.
  • Ensure process design and deliverables meet the applicable regulatory requirements while satisfying Stantec's and the client's standards.
  • Coordinate with project managers, client representatives and multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure process requirements are accurately incorporated into project designs and that process engineering deliverables effectively address stakeholder feedback.
  • Provide discipline leadership through technical checking, independent reviews, mentoring, work planning, scope definition, estimate support, schedule input, quality management, lessons learned, and continuous improvement.
  • Complete tasks in a timely, thorough, and organized manner. Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
    • Development and review of process simulations using HYSYS.
    • Development and review of engineering drawings such as PFDs and P&IDs.
    • Generation and documentation of hydraulic analysis results and study reports.
    • Performing adequacy checks and evaluation of new and/or existing equipment.
    • Sizing calculations for equipment, lines, and instrumentation.
    • Documentation of calculations performed.
    • Generation of documents such as heat & material balance tables, line designation tables, PSV lists, SDK/cause and effect diagrams, set point lists, car seal lists, operating philosophies, equipment datasheets, and instrumentation datasheets.
    • Participate in PHAs (HAZIDs, HAZOPs, LOPAs, and other critical safety reviews)


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Deep technical knowledge of process engineering design in one or more of the following areas: SAGD, Gas Processing, Mineable Oil Sands, Refining, Conventional Oil and Gas
  • Experience with energy transition and low-carbon projects would be considered an asset.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Aspen Hysys is required. Familiarity with Hysys Dynamics, Aspen Plus, Aspen Flare Analyzer, ProMax, Symmetry/VMGSim, AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse or similar tools is an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable codes, standards, regulations and design guidelines (including: API standards, ASME requirements, AER directives, etc.).
  • Strong experience with the development, interpretation, and checking of PFDs, P&IDs and other process deliverables. Ability to read piping isometrics and piping plans
  • Experience with electronic review and markup tools such as Bluebeam, as well as document management and interdisciplinary review workflows, would be an asset.
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical assignments, make sound engineering decisions under uncertainty, manage interfaces across disciplines, assess technical risk, resolve design conflicts, and develop practical, defensible, client-focused solutions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • Minimum of 15-20 years of progressive process engineering experience is required, with an EPC background.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience leading teams is an asset.
  • Registration with APEGA as a P.Eng. is required, registration in other jurisdictions is an asset.

As a senior member of the team, an in office presence will be required. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
