Role overview

We're looking for a Senior Privacy Counsel based in Vancouver to join our global Privacy Team. The role has two core focus areas:

• Cybersecurity. You'll be a central member of Match Group's incident response team by providing guidance on breach assessments, regulatory notification obligations, and incident handling strategy across all jurisdictions globally. Incidents are unpredictable and time-sensitive; when one hits, this work takes priority.
• Global emerging privacy, cyber, and data regulation. You'll lead the team's forward-looking work on new laws, regulatory guidance, enforcement decisions, and court rulings, including in fast-moving areas like AI. This work runs on longer timelines, which means it flexes around incident response when needed.

Beyond these two focus areas, you'll be a full member of the Privacy Team and pitch in on the day-to-day work that keeps a global privacy program running. That means everything from developing internal guidance and playbooks to supporting privacy assessments, audits, and cross-functional governance work. It's the kind of role where your core focus is clear, but no two weeks look exactly the same.

How you'll make an impact

• Serve as lead counsel for global cybersecurity matters as a core member of Match Group's incident response team by advising on breach assessment, regulatory notification obligations, and legal strategy across jurisdictions
• Monitor, interpret, and operationalize emerging privacy, cyber, and data laws around the world, including horizon scanning, gap analysis, and translating new obligations into actionable compliance programs, from AI to biometrics to breach notification
• Partner with the Security team on vendor risk assessments, audits, and compliance frameworks
• Advise product and engineering teams on privacy-by-design as new features and data flows take shape
• Develop and maintain internal legal guidance, policies, and playbooks
• Contribute to Match Group's global privacy program, supporting audits, assessments, and cross-functional governance initiatives

We could be a match if you:

• Are a qualified lawyer with a law degree and bar admission in BC
• Have 5+ years of legal experience, with meaningful focus on privacy, cybersecurity, AI and/or technology law
• Have hands-on experience advising on cybersecurity incident response, including regulatory notification obligations across multiple jurisdictions
• Have working knowledge of the GDPR, PIPEDA, US state privacy and cybersecurity laws, and a willingness to acquire knowledge of laws further afield
• Understand how digital products work - data flows, APIs, SDKs, AI/ML - and can engage credibly with technical and product teams
• Are an effective legal communicator who can advise senior leadership and translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance
• Thrive in fast-moving, ambiguous environments and can manage multiple high-priority matters simultaneously
• Are a self-starter who takes initiative and exercises sound independent legal judgment, knowing when to escalate and when to resolve
• Hold IAPP certifications
• Are comfortable applying AI tools in your own work to improve efficiency and output quality
• Are committed to continuous learning in a regulatory landscape that never stands still

$175,000 - $200,000 a year

Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered.

This salary range is reflective of Vancouver, Canada. For all other locations, this salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
