Full Job Description
ConMet - Canton location is looking for a Sr. Plastics Tooling Enginer to manage the design, development, release, repair, and continuous improvement of injection molding tooling to ensure safe, cost-effective, high-quality production of plastic parts. The Sr. Engineer provides problem-solving support for the production of both new and replacement tooling programs and leads the Tooling Technician group at the ConMet - Canton location.

What You Will Do:
  • Provide input for all tooling decisions and serve as key contact for project coordination and status.
  • Coordinate the interval refurbishments of injection mold tooling onsite.
  • Lead vendor quoting and site visits for outside tooling suppliers to support complex repairs that cannot be completed in-house.
  • Provide direction, training, and coaching to Tooling Technicians to enhance employee skill set and performance
  • Report on progress, roadblocks, successes, and open issues in daily accountability meetings.
  • Study existing manufacturing operations and processes to identify opportunities to drive out waste and improve profitability.
  • Develop common work standards, identify and reapply best practices.
  • Review 3D part designs and submit them to vendors for tooling quotes.
  • Support mold design, build, and repair functions.
  • Travel to Injection Mold vendors (US/Mexico/Canada) to attend trials and review tool progress.
  • Help solve tool design problems, offer suggestions, review designs, and support vendor selection. Provides primary input for all tooling decisions.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team with a focus on the product value stream, including a basic understanding of process flow, equipment, and operations.
  • Assist sales, design, or customers with "part" design reviews to optimize manufacturability and cost.
  • Maintain and update tooling records in Smartsheet tracking software.
  • Hold design review meetings with appropriate ConMet personnel to review the tooling designs.
  • Select and interface with tooling vendors to ensure tooling is built to ConMet specifications.
  • Coordinate repairs and rework efforts to ensure that changes are made in a timely, cost-effective, efficient, and effective manner.
  • Provides support to ConMet manufacturing personnel during tooling sampling runs and through production launch to ensure parts are manufacturable for our processes as designed.
  • Works with ConMet Quality Assurance personnel to ensure that parts produced from tooling meet quality requirements.
  • Provides problem-solving and maintenance support to the Tool Room and Production as required.
  • Maintain awareness of the relevance and importance of activities and how each contributes to achieving quality objectives. Understand the importance of ensuring customer quality standards are met. Responsibilities may include the selection of special characteristics, setting quality objectives and related training, corrective and preventive actions, product design and development, capacity analysis, logistics information, customer scorecards, and customer portals.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the Tooling Department.

What You Need to Be Successful:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university. Extended education and experience as an injection mold journeyman is also suitable for consideration.
  • Three (3+) or more years of plastics manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in plastics tool design.
  • Expert knowledge of GD&T and proficiency in AutoCAD/PRO E, 3-D modeling software.
  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Targeted annual bonus is based on company performance to objectives during the fiscal plan year which runs from October 1 - September 30.
