Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Piping Designer with expertise in SmartPlant Foundation (SPF) and 3D design systems to support complex nuclear power plant projects. This role combines deep technical design capability with leadership, oversight, and mentoring responsibilities.

The successful candidate will lead piping design efforts, ensure data integrity across systems, supervise design teams, and serve as a technical authority for piping layout, standards, and execution. This individual will proactively identify and resolve complex design challenges, drive continuous improvement, and ensure delivery aligns with project scope, quality, budget, and schedule.

Each day in this role offers the opportunity to shape innovative designs, creating detailed, precision-driven drawings created from advanced 3D models that bring complex engineering concepts to life. By collaborating with engineers, mentoring others, and ensuring the highest standards of quality, you play a crucial part in delivering impactful solutions that drive success and safety across projects.

  • 3D Modeling & Technical Drawing: Develop creative, high-precision 3D models and detailed engineering drawings for facility layouts, system modifications, and new equipment development. Prepare drawings for piping systems and layouts in accordance with project specifications, codes, and standards. Prepare and review: piping isometrics, general arrangement (GA) drawings, 2D and 3D design models and project line list. Utilize SmartPlant Foundation (SPF) to manage engineering data, documentation, and workflows. Ensure compliance with industry codes such as ASME Section III, ASME B31.1, and client standards. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex design issues, interferences, and model clashes
  • Leadership & Project Oversight: Serve as a technical lead/supervisor for piping design on assigned projects. Supervise, coordinate, and manage design work across multiple concurrent projects. Provide daily direction, oversight, and performance accountability for designers/drafters. Mentor and develop junior staff; promote knowledge sharing and best practices. Provide man-hour estimates and support project planning activities. Ensure ownership of project deliverables, including quality, budget, and schedule adherence.

  • Coordination & Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and cross-functional teams (mechanical, structural, electrical and instrumentation). Provide input for inter-discipline coordination and participate in project meetings. Plan, facilitate, and lead 3D model reviews and constructability assessments. Coordinate vendor data integration and document control workflows within SPF.
  • Standards & Continuous Improvement: Develop and maintain department standards, templates, and design guides. Identify opportunities to improve workflows, technical standards, and execution efficiency. Support data governance and digital engineering best practices within SPF environments Perform thorough self-checks of drawings and 3D models to identify potential issues early and ensure accuracy and quality. Review and provide feedback on drawings produced by peers; mentor junior drafters/designers as needed. Maintain red-line documents (ECNs, FCRs, etc.) and ensure compliance with internal and client design standards.
  • Project Execution: Meet schedule objectives and support project execution with reliable design deliverables. Travel occasionally for short trips to obtain site or facility credentials. Provide on-site field support and resolve design issues during construction as needed. Develop piping construction scope of work documentation. Support installation planning and constructability reviews.
