This position reports to:Field Service Manager
We are seeking a highly skilled Field Technician with deep expertise in power delivery systems, switchgear, and Automatic transfer systems. In this role, you will perform installation, troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance on electrical distribution equipment.
This role is contributing to the profitability of the ABB Electrification Services Division in the Mid-Atlantic Region The work model for the role is Remote with most work taking place in the NY Metro Area. It will include some remote work for engineering preparation and at customer sites for installation.
Key Responsibilities- Execute startup, commissioning, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair activities on electrical power distribution equipment.
- Perform field service activities on low- and medium-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, automatic transfer switches (ATS), PLCs, and power management systems.
- Diagnose equipment and system failures and implement corrective actions.
- Support retrofits, upgrades, modernization projects, and emergency service calls.
- Develop electrical drawings, schematics, and bills of material as required.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Prepare service reports, commissioning reports, and customer documentation.
Basic Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED, plus 8+ years of field service or engineering experience in electrical power distribution systems. Additional formal education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Low- and medium-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers
- Protective relays (SEL, GE Multilin, or equivalent)
- Commissioning, maintaining, or troubleshooting power distribution equipment
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection/control drawings.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 70%.
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience and working knowledge of:
- Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
- Generator control systems
- PLC and HMI platforms
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Experience commissioning, maintaining, or troubleshooting power distribution equipment in industrial, utility, commercial, or data center environments.
