Full Job Description
Dinsmore is seeking a Senior Media & Communications Manager. The Senior Media & Communications Manager leads the firm's external and internal communications strategy, safeguarding and enhancing the firm's reputation across global markets. This role partners closely with firm leadership, practice leaders, and Marketing and Business Development to deliver sophisticated, timely, and strategic communications that support the firm's business objectives and reinforce its market leadership.

The role requires deep experience in media relations, issues management, executive communications, and professional services environments, with the judgment and discretion expected in a large, complex law firm.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute proactive media strategies that elevate the firm's profile and thought leadership across key practices and industries
  • Serve as the firm's primary media contact; manage relationships with national, legal, and trade press
  • Draft and position press releases, statements, pitches, and talking points for partners and firm leadership
  • Monitor media coverage and industry developments; provide strategic counsel on reputational risks and opportunities
  • Lead communications strategy for sensitive, confidential, or high-risk matters, including litigation-related issues
  • Advise firm leadership on crisis preparedness, response protocols, and messaging
  • Coordinate closely with firm leadership on complex communications matters
  • Develop messaging for firm leadership, including partner communications, firmwide announcements, and strategic initiatives
  • Support leadership communications related to mergers, lateral partner hires, leadership transitions, and firm performance
  • Ensure consistent messaging and tone across internal and external platforms
  • Partner with Marketing and Business Development colleagues to align communications with firm strategy and practice priorities
  • Oversee the creation of high-quality content, including thought leadership promotion, awards submissions, and firm narratives
  • Maintain and evolve the firm's communications calendar and key messaging frameworks
  • Manage and mentor communications team members and/or external agencies
  • Collaborate with partners, practice group leaders, and administrative leadership across the firm
  • Establish best practices, workflows, and approval processes appropriate for a large law firm environment


Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in media relations, corporate communications, or public affairs
  • Experience in a large law firm, professional services firm, financial services, or similarly regulated environment strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success managing complex media relations and high-stakes issues
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and messaging skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to advise senior executives and partners with sound judgment and discretion
  • Experience managing teams and external vendors
  • Strategic thinking and executive presence
  • Excellent judgment and confidentiality
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence at senior levels
  • Deep understanding of media landscape and professional services branding
