Job Title: Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer

Work Schedule:

Hybrid – Torrance, CA

Our team in Military Aircraft Group is looking for a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to help develop the next generation of flight control and weapons bay actuations systems for military aircraft. You will report to the Mechanical Systems Engineering Section Head and will have a 9/80 hybrid work schedule in Torrance, CA.

In this role, you'll serve as a technical leader on advanced new product development programs, influencing system design decisions from concept through qualification. You'll collaborate across engineering disciplines, guide system development and verification activities, mentor developing engineers, and engage directly with customers to deliver innovative solutions for mission-critical aerospace applications.

As a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Provide technical leadership in the development, integration, and verification of advanced hydraulic and electromechanical actuation systems

  • Influence system architecture, design decisions, and requirements development throughout the product lifecycle

  • Lead cross-functional engineering efforts and coordinate technical activities across Moog teams and sites

  • Develop and communicate system requirements, verification strategies, and qualification approaches

  • Create and oversee requirements traceability, verification plans, and system qualification documentation

  • Lead integration and test activities, including troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and resolution of technical issues

  • Present technical solutions, program updates, and test results to customers and internal stakeholders

  • Mentor and support early-career engineers while fostering technical excellence across the team

  • Author technical reports, analyses, and engineering documentation to support program objectives

  • Travel approximately 5-15% to Moog and customer locations, primarily within the United States

To be considered for the role, here’s what you’ll typically bring with you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or another STEM discipline

  • 7+ years of engineering experience, preferably within aerospace or defense product development environments

  • Experience supporting the full product development lifecycle, including requirements development, system design, integration, testing, verification, validation, and qualification

  • Demonstrated success leading technical efforts, subsystem development activities, or cross-functional engineering teams

  • Strong systems-thinking, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting technical information to customers and senior stakeholders

  • Ability to effectively balance technical leadership and hands-on engineering contributions

It’d be great if you also had:

  • Experience designing, developing, analyzing, or verifying complex electrohydraulic and electromechanical actuator systems

  • Experience with aerospace actuation systems, flight control systems, or other safety-critical aerospace applications

  • Familiarity with requirements management and systems engineering tools such as DOORS and Cameo

  • Hands-on experience integrating and testing hydraulic and/or electromechanical systems

  • Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical guidance within engineering teams

  • Experience supporting new product development programs from concept through qualification

Salary Range Transparency:

Torrance, CA $130,000.00–$170,000.00 Annually
