Full Job Description
As a senior contributor on our professional consulting services team you will work independently but incoordination with other disciplines on large projects of high complexity, and as a leader of the process-mechanical discipline team through all phases of a project lifecycle. You will be responsible for developing engineering design documents, using relevant technical and supervisory capabilities to mentor junior staff located in different places across North America, and adopting and implementing the relevant standards, tools and procedures to successfully and efficiently execute projects and consulting services resulting in client satisfaction and on-time delivery.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for leading the process-mechanical discipline on large pump station projects and other related work.
  • Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all process-mechanical engineered systems or products for a project, following the relevant standards, tools and procedures.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of project design documents, including specifications, drawings, technical memoranda, basis of design and design documentation reports and other related engineering documents, throughout various design phases.
  • Assist in the development of project scopes and fees, by identifying process-mechanical scope requirements, including development of preliminary approach, people-hour estimates and schedules.
  • Conduct quality assurance on own projects and quality control on projects of peers.
  • Act as technical advisor on complex issues and guide staff on solutions
  • Engage in the development of design sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats and provide markups for junior engineers/ designers.
  • Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner, contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors to lead all process-mechanical related topics.
  • Provide direct oversight to assigned staff; develop staff skills and abilities by providing guidance and mentoring to strengthen technical abilities.
  • Manage and execute process-mechanical engineering deliverables on multiple projects in a dynamic work environment.
  • Participate in value engineering and constructability reviews.
  • Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the process-mechanical group.
  • Contribute to hazard identification, risk assessment and prevention through design processes.
  • Lead and mentor other process- mechanical engineers.
  • Develop client relationships and support business development as needed.
  • Collaborate with other business centers in Stantec (if required) to execute projects and secure resources.
  • Understand and direct work within Stantec's quality control guidelines.
  • Become a champion of Stantec's EH&S program, with a focus on safety in the field.
  • Support development and manage compliance with project execution plans with support from project control personnel.
  • Complete staff resource planning for assigned projects and participate in employee recruiting where required.
  • Be in responsible charge of designs and stamp engineering documents and drawings as required.
  • Prepare and/or review/approve process-mechanical equipment specifications, datasheets and procurement support documents.
  • Perform and/or review/approve engineering calculations.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Previous experience in the design of multiple large pump station projects, with preference on the design of projects developed using United Stated Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) standards, guidelines, engineering manuals and specifications.
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical engineering concepts, knowledge and experience in the application of mechanical standards, materials and system design, and proven ability to communicate ideas to others.
  • Experience with application of Hydraulic Institute Standards for design and testing of large rotating equipment.
  • Familiarity with design development of project documents using Building Information Modeling (BIM or 3D modelling) and working with others remotely.
  • Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with leading one or more process-mechanical teams through all phases of project document production.
  • Experience checking the work of others for accuracy and completeness and managing time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Experience in collaborating in multi-disciplined project team settings and engaging in creative and critical thought.
  • Capable of overseeing and executing work through a support team of more junior engineers.
  • Experience in applying creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems
  • Strong consulting skills, including ability to act as main point of contact to various stakeholders.
  • Strong presentation and interview skills.
  • Proven mentoring skills and desire to work with and encourage junior staff.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and a proven ability to write clear, thorough technical reports.
  • Proven problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Education, Licensing and Work Experience

Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Licensed Professional Engineer in one or more states in the United States.

Minimum of 10 years of work related experience.

Work Environment

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
