Senior Mechanical Engineer -
Bioproducts / Pulp & Paper Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team in Vancouver, British Columbia. Reporting to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering, this role will support both ongoing and future projects across Alberta and British Columbia. The position is based in Vancouver, BC. The Subject Matter Expert will provide technical advisory support for engineering studies, design reviews, operational assessments, and project evaluations associated with bioproducts and pulp & paper facilities. The role requires extensive experience in process equipment, mechanical systems, plant operations, reliability, and industry best practices. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted technical advisor, reviewing engineering analyses, validating assumptions, and providing expert guidance to support project execution, operational excellence, and sound engineering decision-making.
ResponsibilitiesTypical responsibilities:- HSSE, Risk & Assurance
- Provide technical expertise and guidance for bioproducts and pulp & paper projects.
- Review and assess engineering studies, technical reports, and design documentation.
- Verify the adequacy of engineering methodologies, assumptions, analyses, and calculations.
- Evaluate process equipment, mechanical systems, and plant infrastructure for suitability, reliability, operability, and performance.
- Support multidisciplinary design reviews, technical assessments, and risk evaluations.
- Review process and mechanical engineering deliverables to ensure alignment with project objectives, applicable standards, and industry best practices.
- Identify technical risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide recommendations to optimize safety, operability, maintainability, reliability, and overall asset performance.
- Participate in technical workshops, stakeholder reviews, and project meetings.
- Prepare technical review comments, reports, and advisory memoranda.
- Mentor and support project teams through the sharing of industry knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices.
- Provide technical oversight and independent review of key project decisions and engineering recommendations.

Expected:- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 30 years of engineering experience in industrial processing facilities.
- Extensive experience in bioproducts, pulp & paper, and related process industries.
- Demonstrated experience providing senior technical leadership, technical assurance, and independent engineering reviews.
- Strong understanding of process equipment, plant utilities, mechanical systems, and industrial operations.
- Experience supporting brownfield and greenfield capital projects, plant optimization initiatives, and operational improvement programs.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders.
