Full Job Description

Job Summary & Responsibilities

The mission of the Sr. Mechanical Engineer is to support sustaining of released Metrology products, introduction of new designs and creation of upgrades impacting both Manufacturing and Service environments, focusing on mechanical and opto-mechanical subsystems.  Scope of work includes but is not limited to: component selection, BOM/revision maintenance, design specification determination, process and procedure evolution, isolation of system performance gaps within an operations environment and fixture design supporting qualification of critical parts’ performance. This role will interface regularly with other engineering teams throughout the operations, service, hardware and software development organizations, reporting to the Sr Manager responsible for Sustaining Engineering

Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Plans, designs and develops hardware components and systems of existing and new products
  • Design activities include integration of optical mounts, enclosures, frame and support assemblies and motion control devices
  • Designs mechanical test fixturing for component reliability testing and manufacturing support
  • Supports certification of designs to compliance standards like CE and UL
  • Oversee and if necessary help build/test new designs and prototypes.
  • Generates procedures and related documentation in support of assembly and manufacturing
  • Coordinates with members of the Onto Innovation team to ensure requirements are understood and mechanical designs are smoothly integrated into broader systems and products
  • Work with Supply Chain personnel as required ensuring suppliers deliver to agreed specifications.
  • Construct and adhere to schedule and plans
  • Occasional travel both within the USA and overseas may be required in support of Engineering projects

Qualifications

  • B.S in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5 years plus of experience as a mechanical engineer
  • Knowledge and proficiency with solid modeling software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Good knowledge of modern manufacturing and design methods,
  • FEA capability
  • Ability to work from first principles
  • Experience designing semiconductor equipment products preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and willing to work in a team environment

Compensation & Growth

• Base Salary Range:

$128,000.00 - $192,000.00, offered in good faith and based on experience, location, and qualifications.
