This Opportunity

Join our Industrial Center of Excellence at WSP and contribute to designing innovative plumbing systems for complex building projects. We are seeking a Mechanical Designer who is passionate about delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions that meet client objectives and industry standards.

We are flexible on location-this role can be based in Boise, ID; Overland Park, KS; Madison, WI; Austin, TX; or Houston, TX.

Your Impact
  • Assist in the design and layout of plumbing systems for facilities projects, including potable water, sanitary, storm, and specialty systems.
  • Prepare detailed drawings and cost estimates using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Regularly review and apply client-specific and internal drafting standards to ensure full compliance and consistently high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other disciplines to ensure coordinated and efficient designs.
  • Understand and strictly follow established quality control protocols-ensuring all drafting work complies with documented QA/QC procedures, verification steps, and corrective-action requirements.
  • Support project development from concept through construction, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Incorporate future-ready solutions and sustainable practices into plumbing designs.
  • Participate in site surveys and inspections to verify existing conditions and support design accuracy.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and best practices in plumbing design.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field.
  • 9+ years of experience in plumbing design for building systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; familiarity with plumbing codes and standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with industrial, pharma, tech, or large-scale commercial facilities.
  • Knowledge of sustainable design practices and LEED certification requirements.

Compensation:

Expected Hourly (all locations): $35.15- $51.25
