JOB DESCRIPTION:

THE OPPORTUNITY
At Lingo, we're building a groundbreaking health platform that combines continuous biosensor data, real-time analytics, and personalized insights to help people live fuller, longer, and healthier lives. Our systems ingest millions of sensor readings daily, powering experiences for consumers and partners worldwide, with the reliability and scalability of cloud-native, enterprise-grade platforms.

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Platform Engineering. You are a platform engineer at heart who has grown into leadership and can engage meaningfully in architecture decisions, jump into an incident review, and challenge your team technically, while also running a strong people operation-hiring and developing engineers at multiple levels-and building a culture of operational excellence. This role will own three closely related disciplines: Platform Engineering, DevOps, and SRE, and will be accountable for the reliability, performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency of Lingo's cloud environment. Experience with software delivery and release management is a plus but not a core requirement for this role.

What You'll Work On
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of platform, DevOps, and SRE engineers to own a 24/7 consumer health platform.
  • Build a team culture that prizes operational rigor, continuous improvement, and shared ownership of platform health-where engineers take pride in uptime and treat every incident as a learning opportunity.
  • Manage team capacity, on-call rotation health, and workload balance across concurrent platform initiatives.
  • Own the design, provisioning, scaling, and evolution of Lingo's cloud infrastructure on Azure, ensuring it can support the demands of a globally distributed consumer biosensing platform.
  • Define and enforce cloud architecture standards, guardrails, and best practices, including infrastructure-as-code, environment management, and cost optimization across cloud and PaaS services.
  • Develop and maintain best practices for cloud data services, including SQL, NoSQL, data lakes, and Blob Storage, supporting Lingo's biosensor data pipelines.
  • Partner with Security and Cybersecurity teams to ensure continuous hardening of cloud infrastructure, maintaining compliance with PCI, PHI, HIPAA, GDPR, and other applicable privacy and governance standards.
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive 24/7 monitoring, alerting, and incident response capability, ensuring the team can detect, diagnose, and resolve issues rapidly across all production environments.
  • Lead incident management and post-incident review culture, ensuring learnings are systematically captured and acted upon to reduce repeat failures.
  • Manage and continuously improve Level 1 and Level 2 incident resolution processes, on-call rotation structures, and escalation paths.
  • Own backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning for Lingo's production systems.
  • Lead the DevOps function, owning CI/CD pipeline infrastructure, deployment automation, and the tooling that enables Lingo's engineering teams to ship reliably and frequently.
  • Implement and evolve end-to-end observability, including distributed tracing, logging, and metrics, to provide engineering teams the visibility they need to build and operate high-quality software.
  • Represent platform engineering in technology leadership discussions, contributing a platform and reliability perspective to roadmap and architecture decisions.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or platform engineering, with strong hands-on depth in at least two of the three disciplines: Platform Engineering, DevOps, and SRE.
  • 3+ years of engineering management experience with direct line management responsibility, including hiring, performance management, and career development of engineers.
  • Hands-on technical experience to engage meaningfully in architecture discussions, infrastructure design reviews, and incident analysis alongside your team.
  • Deep experience with Azure cloud services, including infrastructure provisioning, scaling, security, and cost management at production scale.
  • Proven experience establishing and running 24/7 monitoring, alerting, and on-call operations for consumer-facing or high-availability platforms.
  • Strong understanding of SRE principles: SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, incident management, and post-incident review practices.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling (e.g., Terraform or equivalent) and modern CI/CD pipeline management.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex platform and reliability concepts to non-technical stakeholders and represent the platform function in senior leadership forums.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building and maintaining infrastructure compliant with PCI, PHI, HIPAA, GDPR, or other applicable privacy and governance frameworks.
  • Experience managing platform engineering teams supporting IoT, biosensor, or real-time consumer health data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with cloud security, identity management, and zero-trust security models at scale.
  • Experience with observability tooling such as New Relic, Sentry, PagerDuty, Datadog, or equivalent for end-to-end platform monitoring.
  • Experience with AIOps practices, and tooling, including AI driven anomaly detection, predictive alerting and automated incident triage to enhance platform observability and reduce mean tine to resolution.
  • Familiarity with MLOps platforms and infrastructure such as model serving, pipeline orchestration and experience in partnering with Data science and AI/ML teams to operationalize models reliably in production.
  • Background in data infrastructure including SQL, NoSQL, data lakes, and Blob Storage in a cloud-native context.
