ROLE SUMMARY


The Global Work Place Experience (GWE) Senior Manager, People Experience, Environmental Health and Safety plays an influential role as a driver of a proactive safety & environmental culture enabling Pfizer’s Purpose; “Breakthroughs that change patients’ lives.” The role is pivotal in shaping the long-term regional safety & environmental strategy working closely with GWE and Campus leaders to grow programs that deliver proactive improvements.


The role is accountable for EHS at the Bothell Canyon Park and North Creek locations and buildings, maintaining programs that ensure compliance with applicable jurisdictional EHS regulations and company EHS policies and procedures. The role purposely networks within its GWE region to drive implementation of continuous improvement and best practice opportunities to achieve strategic and operational goals.


The Senior Manager, EHS provides leadership and oversight of the campus EHS management system, supported by a team of subject matter experts. This role thoughtfully leads, mentors and develops the campus’ EHS talent while providing direct technical support for various EHS management system elements such as Change Management, Capital Project support, High Hazard Work, Contractor Management, Emergency Management, Fire and Life Safety, Biosafety, Laboratory Safety and/or Occupational Hygiene. Acts in a liaison role for assigned research lines and/or GWE teams.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

· Sets the strategic direction for continuous improvement of the campus EHS management system, through short term and long-term objectives, integrating campus and over-arching corporate priorities.

· Collaborate with site leadership on colleague & contractor safety risk reduction and environmental impact reduction priorities, equipping peers with performance status; and data trends to drive CI.

· Oversee the development and maintenance of the site legal register, impact assessment and regulatory / commitment tracking processes, utilizing self-assessment tools to assure effectiveness.

· Lead a compliance calendar and reasonable inquiry process for safety and environmental permit applications, registrations, certifications and renewals to assure the accuracy and completeness of all routine and special regulatory and internal reports / submissions.

· Serve as the primary point of contact for EHS external / regulatory bodies.

· Ensure implementation, maintenance and effectiveness of safety & environmental management systems to meet contemporary external and Pfizer internal EHS standards and corporate program harmonization timelines and objectives.

· Establish and maintain site inspection / audit systems that periodically evaluate the effectiveness of the site EHS management system; and utilize the trends to drive improvement actions.

· Integrate safety and environmental risk assessment within business operations thereby ensuring operations are conducted in a safe manner and in full compliance with applicable regulating bodies or Pfizer EHS standards.

· Manage and execute the site EHS budget and ensure delivery of in-sourced and outsourced EHS services that meet the needs of the business while assuring appropriate fiscal responsibility and due diligence.

· Collaborate with safety & environmental peers within the network to identify and embrace best practices and drive adoption as appropriate.

· Grow and develop safety & environmental talent.

· Ensure preparedness for potential threats and actin the capacity as an Emergency Response Coordinator

· Participate in or lead key committees such as the Campus EHS Steering Committee, Safety Committee, Institutional Biosafety Committee, Emergency Planning Committee and/or Campus Green Team.

· Serve as the EHS liaison for certain science lines and/or GWE teams

· Perform other related assignments as identified by GWE Management as deemed appropriate.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Undergraduate Degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, EHS discipline, Risk Mgt or related field

· Minimum 7 - 10 years of experience in a relevant industry e.g., pharma, biotech, chemical, with a sustained track record in improving EHS performance.

· Thorough knowledge of jurisdictional EHS regulations, and their applicability to site EHS mgt.

· EHS technical and leadership experiences and capabilities, aligned with site risk profile to drive business outcomes with stakeholders.

· Organized and detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to handle competing priorities and perform under pressure, bias for action.

· Possess a collaborative spirit, effective influencing skills, strong project management skills, including change leadership.

· Previous experience successfully managing/leading EHS personnel

· Excellent training and presentation skills, techniques, applications and practices


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Master’s degree in Environmental, Safety, or Engineering field preferred.

· Certified Environmental/Occ Hygiene/Safety professional; with continuous professional development.

· Experience working in highly regulated industries (e.g., GMP, GxP)

· Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization and a proven track record in change management.

· Lean six sigma green belt or black belt

· Experience with operational excellence / visual management systems

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraints.  On a daily basis, the position responsibilities may require the ability to stoop; to reach; to stand, to walk the site for extended periods of time; to push and/or pull objects weighing up to 30 pounds; to lift and carry objects weighing up to 15 pounds; to sit/stand at a computer workstation for extended periods of time.  On a frequent basis, essential duties of the position may require the ability to climb stairs, to kneel and/or crouch to retrieve items. 


NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • May require occasional off-hours support for non-standard business need.
  • Respond as required to the site in support of business continuity and emergency events.
  • Periodic travel may be required in support of GWE business requirements, including occasional in-person support for other West Region sites.
  • Entry and work inside laboratories, vivarium, mechanical/electrical rooms, central utility plants, maintenance shops, shipping and receiving and service corridors.  While working in these areas, strict adherence to gowning procedures and personal protective equipment will be required as applicable.
  • General safety knowledge and awareness expected in office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments.
  • Must pass enhanced background check.

Work Location Assignment: On Premise
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $139,100.00 to $231,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 17.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
