Responsibilities

  • Analyze risk exposures and operational losses to identify gaps in controls.
  • Support decision-making by providing actionable insights to the CRO and Risk Management Committee.
  • Prepare reports for regulatory bodies and senior management on risk management activities.
  • Establish and maintain the Bank's Operational Risk Management Framework in compliance with OSFI guidelines.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of IT and Cybersecurity frameworks as they relate to operational risk.
  • Oversee third-party risk management processes per OSFI guidelines.
  • Review the Fraud Risk Management program in alignment with operational strategies.
  • Conduct independent reviews of new Bank initiatives during change management processes.
  • Coordinate regular reporting of RCSA, loss data, and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs).
  • Review and assess Business Contingency Plan (BCP) elements and related operational measures.

Full Job Description
As an independent officer of the second line of defense from the Risk Management department, the Senior Manager, Operational Risk will report directly to the Chief Risk Officer with regards to Shinhan Bank Canada's Operational Risk Management function and other risk management functions within the organization. The Senior Manager, Operational Risk (Risk Officer) will act as a champion and challenger, guiding business partners in implementing operational risk management practices and supporting the Risk Management Department's overall mandate. The Senior Manager, Operational Risk will also be responsible for regulatory compliance across the Risk Management function including updating Ethidex and liaisoning with Compliance department including updating pendencies.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
• Analyze and synthesize risk exposures, operational losses, root causes and control gaps to proactively identify risk exposures and control gaps. Present findings and analysis results to the CRO and the Leadership Team as needed
• Support the CRO and Risk Management Committee (RMC) with actionable insights to make informed, risk-based decisions
• Prepare and submit reports to the CRO, senior management, RMC, Parent bank, and regulatory bodies as needed
• Establish and maintain the Bank's Operational Risk Management Framework in accordance to OSFI's E-21 aligned with the Bank's strategy and other risk management functions
• Review and monitor the Bank's effective IT and Cybersecurity Framework aligned with operational risk management framework
• Review and monitor the Bank's outsourcing or the third party risk management process in accordance to OSFI's B-10
• Review and monitor the Bank's Fraud Risk Management program in alignment with the operational risk management framework
• Perform an independent review on new initiatives of the Bank as part of change management of the Bank
• Coordinate and report RCSA, Loss data and KRI on a regular basis
• Review and monitor the Bank's BCP (Business Contingency Plan) and related measurements such as BIA (Business Impact Analysis), RA (Risk Assessment) and MCA (Mission Critical Activities) on a regular basis.
• Make a challenge for any gap of the Bank's process and procedures from regulatory requirement
• Will be responsible for regulatory compliance across the Risk Management function including updating RMD on regulatory updates, Ethidex and liaisoning with Compliance department including review and updation of control gaps tendencies

Job Requirements

Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, risk management or other related field required and/or Chartered Accountant or MBA is preferred

Work Experience Requirements: 10-15 years of related experience
• Strong research and communication skills
• Demonstrated analytical thinking to solve complex problems
• Strong time management and ability to handle multiple projects
• Excellent documentation skills related to policies/guidelines/procedures/manuals
• Experience in VBA or SQL is also considered an asset
• Experience in analyzing and providing insights on OSFI and Basel II & III regulations is considered an asset
• 5-7 years of people management experience is preferred
• CPA designation or FRM, or in pursuit of any risk management related designation, is preferred
