As the Senior Manager, Innovation & AI Countermeasures, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, designing, and advancing innovative fraud countermeasures that strengthen Scotiabank's ability to prevent, detect, contain, and disrupt emerging cyber-fraud threats, including AI-enabled threats. This role sits within Fraud Threat Management and translates intelligence, incident learnings, industry developments, and emerging technologies into practical, scalable fraud mitigation capabilities. Working closely with partners across Global Fraud Management, Technology, Digital, Cybersecurity, Data & Analytics, business lines, risk partners, and external solution providers, you will help advance new controls, tools, signals, operating models, and proof-of-concept initiatives that improve client protection and reduce fraud exposure across products, channels, and markets.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
  • Lead the identification, assessment, and development of advanced fraud countermeasures that respond to emerging cyber-fraud threats, evolving scam typologies, account-level attacks, phishing ecosystems, social engineering tactics, synthetic identity risks, and other relevant threat vectors.
  • Translate threat intelligence, incident findings, fraud analytics, industry insights, and external research into actionable opportunities to strengthen prevention, early detection, containment, disruption, and loss mitigation capabilities.
  • Design and advance innovation opportunities, proofs of concept, pilots, and business cases for new fraud controls, tools, technologies, and operating practices that improve Scotiabank's fraud resilience across products, channels, and markets.
  • Evaluate and pilot AI-enabled fraud countermeasures, including machine learning, LLMs, generative AI, and agentic AI, while monitoring the evolving intersection of AI as both a defensive capability and an emerging threat vector.
  • Work with Fraud Incident Management, Problem Management, Fraud Analytics, CIAM, Fraud Advisory, Fraud Governance, Technology, Digital, Cybersecurity Operations, Corporate Security, Legal, Privacy, and business line partners to identify control opportunities and recommend fit-for-purpose countermeasures.
  • Support the development and execution of a Fraud Threat Management innovation roadmap that prioritizes high-impact countermeasures aligned with the Bank's fraud strategy, risk appetite, client experience objectives, and operational capacity.
  • Assess fraud technology vendors, industry capabilities, and emerging tools to determine potential applicability to Scotiabank's threat environment, including behavioral analytics, device intelligence, entity resolution, graph analytics, machine learning, identity verification, scam intervention, and threat disruption.
  • Partner with data and analytics teams to identify new signals, patterns, rules, models, typologies, and detection opportunities that can improve early warning, prioritization, and response to emerging threats.
  • Produce clear, executive-ready materials, including briefing notes, decision papers, presentations, perspectives, explainers, and post-pilot summaries that articulate the threat context, recommended response, expected benefits, risks, dependencies, and implementation considerations.
  • Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment by fostering curiosity, collaboration, disciplined execution, and continuous learning.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
  • 7+ years of experience in fraud management, cyber-fraud, financial crime, cybersecurity, fraud strategy, product risk, digital banking risk, fraud analytics, incident response, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, assessing, or improving fraud controls, fraud detection capabilities, fraud prevention strategies, or technology-enabled risk mitigation solutions.
  • Strong understanding of fraud typologies, cyber-fraud threat actor tactics, account takeover, scams, phishing, mule networks, digital identity risk, authentication controls, payment fraud, and client protection strategies.
  • Experience with or strong interest in applied AI/ML for fraud detection, including anomaly detection, classification models, feature engineering, and emerging AI capabilities related to fraud prevention and threat intelligence.
  • Experience working with data, analytics, technology, product, operations, and risk partners to translate complex issues into practical business requirements and actionable recommendations.
  • Familiarity with fraud technologies and advanced countermeasure capabilities such as behavioral biometrics, device intelligence, entity link analysis, graph analytics, machine learning, anomaly detection, identity verification, authentication controls, case management, and threat intelligence tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess emerging threats, identify root cause contributors, and recommend scalable mitigation strategies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare executive-ready materials and translate complex technical or fraud risk concepts into clear, practical guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority and build trusted relationships across business, technology, risk, and control functions.
  • Relevant certifications such as CFE, CISM, CISSP, CISA, GIAC AI Security Automation Engineer, GIAC Certified Incident Handler, ITIL, or other fraud, cybersecurity, risk, data, or vendor technology credentials are an asset.
