POSITION TITLE: Senior Manager - Health & Safety, Data Center Operations

Position Summary: VoltaGrid is seeking an experienced Senior Manager - Health & Safety, Field Operations to serve as a roving Health & Safety leader supporting VoltaGrid projects and operations across multiple locations. Based in Houston, this position will report directly to the Health & Safety Director and provide field-level Health & Safety leadership, technical support, and execution of strategic Health & Safety initiatives across the organization.
The role will provide targeted field support where additional Health & Safety leadership, oversight, or intervention is needed and will serve as a key resource to project, construction, and operations teams. In addition to field responsibilities, this position will work directly with the Health & Safety Director on strategic initiatives, program development, contractor management, audits, performance improvement, and implementation of VoltaGrid Health & Safety expectations across the organization.
This is a hands-on leadership position requiring significant field presence, flexibility to travel, strong technical safety knowledge, and the ability to work effectively across construction and operational environments.
Field Health & Safety Support- Provide roving Health & Safety support to VoltaGrid construction projects, operational facilities, and other locations as assigned by the Health & Safety Director.
- Deploy to projects or facilities requiring additional Health & Safety leadership, oversight, technical assistance, or performance improvement.
- Conduct field observations, audits, inspections, and site walkthroughs to evaluate compliance with VoltaGrid requirements and applicable regulations.
- Provide direct coaching and guidance to project leadership, operations personnel, supervisors, and field employees.
- Identify hazards, operational risks, and systemic gaps and work with site leadership to develop practical and sustainable corrective actions.
- Support implementation and consistent execution of VoltaGrid Health & Safety programs, policies, procedures, and Life Saving Rules.
- Assist site teams with high-risk activities, pre-job planning, JSAs/JHAs, permits, and other critical risk controls.
- Monitor Health & Safety performance and assist leadership in addressing identified gaps.
Covington Data Center Support- Provide ongoing Health & Safety leadership and field support for the Covington, Georgia data center project.
- Support Health & Safety activities throughout construction, commissioning, startup, and transition into ongoing operations.
- Work closely with construction management, operations leadership, contractors, subcontractors, and customer representatives.
- Conduct periodic site visits and assessments to verify implementation of VoltaGrid and site-specific Health & Safety requirements.
- Support the development and implementation of operational Health & Safety processes as the facility transitions from construction into operations.
- Identify emerging risks associated with construction, commissioning, energization, startup, and operational activities and assist with development of appropriate controls.
- Support Covington leadership in maintaining consistent Health & Safety performance and expectations.
Health & Safety Strategy & Program Support - Work directly with the Health & Safety Director to support development and execution of VoltaGrid's Health & Safety strategy.
- Assist with development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Health & Safety policies, procedures, standards, programs, and field tools.
- Support strategic Health & Safety initiatives and special projects assigned by the Health & Safety Director.
- Assist in developing standardized Health & Safety processes across construction and operational locations.
- Evaluate field implementation of Health & Safety programs and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Assist with development and monitoring of leading and lagging Health & Safety performance indicators.
- Support development of annual Health & Safety objectives, improvement plans, and organizational initiatives.
- Assist with implementation of lessons learned and best practices across projects and operations.
- Provide field feedback to ensure corporate Health & Safety programs remain practical, effective, and aligned with operational needs.
Contractor Health & Safety Management - Support implementation of VoltaGrid's contractor Health & Safety management expectations.
- Participate in contractor prequalification, evaluations, audits, and performance reviews as assigned.
- Evaluate contractor Health & Safety plans, programs, and field execution.
- Conduct field assessments of contractor and subcontractor activities.
- Work with project and contractor leadership to address deficiencies and improve performance.
- Support consistent implementation of VoltaGrid Health & Safety requirements across contractors and projects.
- Assist with tracking contractor Health & Safety performance, corrective actions, and improvement plans.
Incident Management & Investigations - Respond to significant incidents and high-potential events at VoltaGrid locations as directed.
- Lead or support incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis processes, including Think Reliability methodologies.
- Assist teams in identifying immediate, contributing, and systemic causes.
- Ensure corrective and preventive actions are appropriately developed and tracked to closure.
- Support development and communication of lessons learned, safety alerts, and organizational improvement actions.
- Assist the Health & Safety Director with evaluation of significant incidents and organizational trends.
Audits, Assessments & Performance Improvement - Conduct formal Health & Safety audits and technical evaluations of VoltaGrid projects and operational facilities.
- Evaluate compliance with VoltaGrid requirements, site-specific requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Document findings and work with responsible leadership to establish corrective action plans.
- Track significant findings through resolution and verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Support customer audits, regulatory inspections, and internal assessments as needed.
- Identify trends across multiple projects and recommend organizational improvements.
Leadership & Communication - Serve as a field representative of the Health & Safety Director and reinforce organizational Health & Safety expectations.
- Develop strong working relationships with construction, operations, maintenance, project management, contractors, and customer representatives.
- Participate in project planning meetings, operational reviews, safety meetings, and leadership discussions.
- Provide clear and consistent communication regarding Health & Safety expectations, risks, and performance.
- Coach field leadership and supervisors on effective Health & Safety leadership and accountability.
- Support Health & Safety training, workshops, and employee engagement initiatives as needed.
- Prepare reports, presentations, assessments, and recommendations for Health & Safety and operational leadership.
Other Requirements - 7-10 years of progressive experience in construction safety, industrial safety, operational safety, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience supporting large-scale construction, industrial, energy, data center, or critical infrastructure projects.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA requirements and recognized industry Health & Safety practices.
- Strong technical knowledge of field safety, hazard recognition, risk assessment, and critical risk controls.
- Experience conducting Health & Safety audits, inspections, and field assessments.
- Experience leading or participating in incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis.
- Experience working with contractors and subcontractors in complex construction or industrial environments.
- Ability to work independently and effectively represent Health & Safety leadership in the field.
- Ability to influence project and operational leadership without relying solely on direct authority.
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, projects, and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50-60%, including travel on short notice when necessary to support significant field activities or incidents.
Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
- Additional BCSP certifications such as CHST, OHST, or SMS are a plus.
- Experience supporting data center, power generation, electrical infrastructure, energy, or other mission-critical projects.
- Experience supporting both construction and operational environments.
- Experience with contractor Health & Safety management and contractor prequalification programs.
- Experience developing or implementing corporate Health & Safety programs, procedures, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Experience with commissioning, energization, startup, and transition from construction into operations is preferred.
