The Senior Manager, GRM International Banking contributes to the overall success of the Global Risk Management Latin America ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. They will ensure all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

The Senior Manager will also ensure credit adjudication, controlling activities and related processes are conducted within a strong risk culture with a focus on emerging risks and within risk appetite.They will also provide objective oversight and challenge, enable capital optimization, ensure ongoing monitoring, and partner with business lines to develop effective strategy.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Risk Assessment and Rating Assignment:


    • Adjudicate credit requests up to assigned limits; make sound recommendations on larger and/or problem loans within the Bank risk appetite and in adherence to our policy and standards.
    • Evaluate financial and non-financial risks for accurate client risk profiling, challenge banking strategies and risk return over assets below defined threshold ensuring compliance with bank policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Review, challenge and authorize risk assessment and rating assignment, timely monitoring changes in client's creditworthiness, and recommending adequate course of action.
    • Understand economic, political and regulatory framework and how it impacts the assigned portfolio. Recommending potential actions.
    • Participate in risk committees and deal forums, acting as an advisor partner for Banking.
  • Client Centric (Internal/External)


    • Play an integral role in the client relationship experience, actively providing feedback on deals and assigned accounts, and when possible, participate in client's meetings/calls/field visits.
    • Ensure adjudication process is achieved within the stablished SLA parameters.
    • Manage Seamless collaboration with Banking to provide cohesive and efficient client experience and develop strategies to enhance credit offerings aligned with our risk appetite.
    • Provide constructive engagement with Banking while maintaining control function capability
  • Documentation,Data and Reporting:


    • Review of non-standard documentation.
    • Validate critical data elements in credit systems which feed capital and provisions.
    • Drive innovation and digitize risk processes, improving accuracy of and speed of credit decisions and operational efficiencies.
  • Portfolio Management:


    • Manage Account Monitoring: proactive and ongoing monitoring of Early Warning Signs and sectorial trends, to ensure timely actions on assigned portfolio.
    • Work with Banking to ensure adherence to all compliance metrics of the loan portfolio and its documentation, is managed effectively within defined KPIs and internal process.
  • Keeping the Bank Safe:


    • Research and complete training related to the position to keep up to date with risk practices.
    • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
    • Consistently 'does the right thing' to keep the Bank safe and foster an environment where they, employees, customers, and stakeholders can speak up / raise concerns.
    • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
    • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Ability to conduct business fluently in Spanish is required.
  • MBA and/or Finance-related professional designations (e.g. CPA, CFA, etc) are assets.
  • Experience in credit analysis in Corporate and/or Commercial Banking or Credit roles, including but not limited to understanding of credit structures and protections, credit documentation, and financial projections.
  • Curiosity, ability to learn and to apply newly acquired knowledge to daily tasks.
  • Time management and organizational skills to manage multiple (often shifting) priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound oral and written communication skills to elaborate and support credit decisions before internal stakeholders (e.g. Global Risk Management and Banking counterparts).
  • Negotiation and problem-resolution skills to reach agreements with business line partners.
