Purpose

This Senior Manager, GBM Financial Planning and Analysis position is part of the GBM Business Line Support team, which is a team responsible for providing business support and value-added analytical and strategic support to GBM's business lines and senior management to facilitate the achievement of GBM's business objectives. The team is the primary contact between Global Finance and GBM business lines with respect to Accounting and Balance Sheet support and related inquiries. This role will involve the use of both statutory and MIS data to meet objectives.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will be involved in:
• Accounting Analysis - Review and analyze accounting issues in GBM to support accounting requests / issues raised by GBM business partners. Identifying alternatives to tax, regulatory, and/or other financial reporting issues, as required
• Strategic Initiatives - Develop recommendations and analysis related to the execution of GBM's strategic initiatives.
• Strategic Partner to Business Line - Provide analysis, support and counsel to business line management related to planning and forecasting including balance sheet management. Conduct financial reviews/investigations of strategic business initiatives.
• Financial Analysis - Analyze financial results to Identify/resolve issues, and provide commentary related to the actual results and/or forecasts.
• Management Information Systems - Work collaboratively with other stakeholders in GBM to access MIS data required to perform the duties of the position including data related to profitability and performance as well as capital and funding usage.
• Ad Hoc Requests - Support ad hoc requests from Executive Management, auditors, regulators, rating agencies, research analysts and other external parties as required. Prepare and provide analytical support including analysis and data related to business line, product, geographic, or client profitability or balance sheet, capital, and/or funding usage.
• Team Environment - Contribute to an environment in which the team works together to produce creative and value-added strategic analysis while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls.

Dimensions: Office environment with hybrid working in line with BNS and Global Finance policies, as amended from time to time. Due to involvement with Plan and other deliverables, periodically required to work outside of standard business hours.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have the following:
• Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or Business Administration or a Chartered Financial Analyst or Chartered Professional Accountant designation or comparable experience
• Minimum 5 years of experience in capital markets business and/or Finance experience is preferred.
• Understanding of capital markets business lines, accounting, financial reporting process, compliance policies, performance measurement, planning and analysis, service standards, and legal and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent analytical skills including financial modelling.
• Advanced presentation and communication skills and proven ability to provide insightful and influential analysis to Senior Management.
• A demonstrated ability to work in a team environment under tight deadlines, in some cases on special projects requiring creative analysis and solutions.
• Experience or familiarity with capital management, and/or liquidity/funding concepts an asset.

Working Conditions

Work in an ecosystem environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
