Full Job Description
About the Team:

Grindr is seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting to lead our public-company reporting function. This is a role for a true subject matter expert who has navigated complex technical accounting matters and SEC reporting in a fast-paced environment - someone who understands how to design, implement, and manage financial reporting processes that scale with the business. You'll own the preparation and delivery of accurate, timely SEC filings, define accounting policies for sophisticated transactions, and ensure financial statements and disclosures meet the highest standards of rigor and transparency.

As an integral member of the monthly close process, you'll partner closely with the broader accounting team to drive timely, accurate close cycles and ensure technical accounting decisions are reflected appropriately in the financial statements. In this capacity, you will also act as a key member of finance leadership, contributing to strategic priorities, cross-functional initiatives, and the overall direction of the finance organization.

You'll play a central role in shaping our financial close and reporting cadence, bringing structure, consistency, and accountability to technical accounting decisions, internal controls, and collaboration with external auditors. This position is foundational to the company's financial integrity and investor confidence, and you'll have the opportunity to power a high-performing team, influence cross-functional partners, and make a measurable impact on how we close, report, and communicate our results.

At Grindr, we operate in Grindr Mode. Moderately hardcore day to day, truly hardcore when it counts. It's about doing great work without burning out. Outcomes over outputs. Smart, driven people who raise your bar, with room to live full lives.

This is a hybrid role based in our New York office and will require you to be in person Tuesdays and Thursdays.

About the Job:
  • Lead and own the SEC reporting and technical accounting function for a fast-paced public company, ensuring filings (Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and related disclosures) are accurate, timely, and audit-ready.
  • Serve as an integral member of the monthly close process, owning key areas including share-based compensation, payroll, and other headcount-related accounts - ensuring journal entries, reconciliations, and related analyses are completed with precision and delivered on schedule.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on GAAP, SEC rules, and complex accounting issues (e.g., revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, leases, business combinations, derivatives, equity instruments).
  • Partner with Finance, FP&A, Tax, Legal, and external auditors to bring structure, consistency, and clarity to technical accounting interpretations and financial statement presentation.
  • Oversee and optimize payroll and related processes, ensuring alignment between payroll operations, accounting treatment, and external reporting requirements.
  • Drive improvements in financial reporting processes, controls, and systems to support scalability, reduce risk, and strengthen internal controls across the reporting cycle.
  • Mentor, develop, and lead a high-performing team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and excellence in delivery.

Role Requirements:
  • 10+ years of progressive public company accounting experience, including deep ownership of SEC reporting and technical accounting.
  • Proven track record leading GAAP/SEC financial reporting, with direct responsibility for preparing or overseeing Form 10-Q, 10-K, and related disclosures, and supporting external audits.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Tax, Legal, HR, and external auditors to navigate technical issues and drive consensus.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset and a commitment to mentoring, developing, and elevating the team.
  • High attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive approach to identifying issues, driving solutions, and improving processes.
  • Proficiency with ERP and reporting tools (e.g., Oracle Fusion, ADP, Workiva) and advanced Excel skills.

You May Thrive in this Role if You:
  • Have experience working in tech, media, or multi-entity environments.
  • Have experience overseeing payroll, including understanding of payroll tax treatment, accruals, and integration with the general ledger and external reporting.
