Full Job Description
What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Senior Director, Sustainability Disclosures, you'll play a key role in supporting CIBC's bank-wide sustainability transformation as we prepare for evolving voluntary and regulatory requirements. You'll focus on closing disclosure gaps by collaborating with business subject matter experts to develop and enhance disclosures that meet technical quantitative and qualitative standards. You'll work closely with stakeholders across business units and functional groups, championing change and educating partners on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) requirements. Your efforts will help ensure CIBC remains ahead of industry expectations and continues to lead in sustainability practices. You'll also support the publication process, including coordination with translation, multimedia, and PR teams, to ensure accurate disclosures are published with corresponding news releases.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How you'll succeed

  • Sustainability Regulatory Expertise - You bring knowledge and expertise on sustainability and climate voluntary standards and the evolving regulatory landscape, staying informed about changes, impacts, and opportunities as new requirements emerge. You monitor evolving standards and regulations, working with internal partners to interpret changes and impacts to CIBC's sustainability disclosures, processes, controls, and data approaches.
  • Disclosure Development & Enhancement - You support the development of CIBC's sustainability report and other sustainability and climate disclosures, owning specific sections and managing content contributions from multiple stakeholders across the bank. You conduct benchmarking, research, and analysis to identify opportunities for disclosure enhancements and work with content contributors to improve alignment with voluntary and regulatory requirements year-over-year.
  • Internal Review & Publication - You facilitate multiple rounds of internal reviews with executives and review teams (e.g., Finance, Legal, Compliance, Oversight Functions), including SVP attestations, Senior Executive Sustainability Council, and Board mailouts, to refine and finalize disclosures. You support the publication process, collaborating with translation, multimedia, and PR teams to ensure accurate disclosures are published with corresponding news releases.
  • Sustainability Assessments & RFPs - You review and update CIBC's strategy for responding to sustainability-related assessments. You lead and support business units in responding to RFPs and sustainability assessments, training champions within business units to build capacity.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration - You demonstrate strong interpersonal and presentation skills to manage key stakeholder relationships. You support project management and coordination of input, reviews, and approvals from content contributors across the bank. You maintain a collaborative work environment and assist team members in resolving organizational, operational, and process challenges. You complete third-party sustainability rating and ranking assessments and conduct peer benchmarking, research, and analysis to understand the public perception of CIBC's sustainability and climate position, identifying gaps and opportunities to enhance sustainability strategy and disclosure.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate at least 2 years of experience in financial services, ESG, sustainability, climate, or a related field. You understand the complexities of evolving voluntary and regulatory requirements and have worked within medium or large enterprises.
  • You demonstrate technical knowledge of sustainability concepts. You understand sustainability frameworks and regulations, and stay up to date with the evolving landscape.
  • You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of detailed quantitative information. You're confident in your ability to measure and communicate detailed information in an impactful way.
  • Your influence makes an impact. You know that relationships and networks are essential to success. Your excellent interpersonal skills enable you to build strong relationships and drive positive outcomes.
  • You understand that success is in the details. You notice things others may miss, and your critical thinking skills help inform decision making. You quickly grasp complex issues and adapt to new subject matter and changing circumstances.
  • You have proven project management and strategic planning skills. You develop plans and tactics to support input, engagement, and approvals across functional teams.
  • You are an independent and accountable leader. You are able to work independently with little oversight. You have experience coaching employees and driving successful team results.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
