What you'll be doing

The Capital Markets Controllership team at CIBC is dedicated to ensuring the accuracy and validity of reported results for all Capital Markets lines of business. As a Senior Manager within the Business Initiatives & Analytics (BIA) team, you'll provide in-depth advice to partners across the Front Office, Infrastructure groups (Operations, Technology, and Risk), CFO, and other Finance teams. Your role will focus on supporting the implementation of new products, initiatives, and systems. You'll be integral to executing complex accounting investigations and continuous improvement initiatives for end-to-end Finance processes supporting Capital Markets products. You'll help resolve financial accounting and reporting issues by investigating, analyzing, and offering independent recommendations on compliance matters, policy changes, operational controls, risk assessment, and control activities. You'll actively participate in high-complexity projects to enhance and upgrade new and existing programs, products, or services by researching relevant data and developing proposals and recommendations.

How you'll succeed

  • Analyzing Business Requirements – Research and analyze specialized financial information, recommend and implement solutions to issues and problems that arise during ongoing business operations.
  • Relationship Management – Build strong partnerships and relationships with team members and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. Liaise with Finance, Capital Markets Front Office, and other stakeholder groups to ensure efficient issue resolution for accounting technology related to new initiatives and processes.
  • Project Management – Demonstrate highly developed organizational and prioritization skills to manage multiple projects and processes in a dynamic environment with increased expectations around control, service, and accounting transparency. Use a hands-on approach to solve moderately complex finance issues.
  • Analytics Development – Lead analytics development projects with key stakeholders and business specialists, leveraging technology tools such as Alteryx, RPA/IPA, and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Transformation – Drive continuous improvement and assist in developing new systems and processes to enhance departmental efficiency. Collaborate to determine business needs and provide analytical or financial support for effective decision making in Capital Markets.
  • System Expertise – Apply advanced working knowledge of major systems used to capture trades (such as xTrader, ADP, WallStreet, Bloomberg TOMS, and similar systems) to support managers, staff, and other areas of the bank.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate strong controllership experience. You bring expertise in oversight of accounting functions supporting Capital Markets, including enhancing financial controls across multiple groups such as Front Office, Operations, Financial Reporting, and Technology. In addition, you are knowledgeable in IFRS and Financial Reporting. You possess a strong understanding of IFRS and reporting requirements for financial instruments.
  • You are a certified professional. You have current accreditation and good standing in the CPA or CFA designation. Certification in Data Analytics is considered an asset.
