Purpose

Leads and oversees International Banking - Global Banking and Markets / Capital Markets in Toronto, Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

What you will do?

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Insert specific role accountability (as opposed to your annual deliverables) that outlines a significant aspect of the job and how it is achieved.
  • The preparation of credit requests for new and existing counterparties, which includes financial analysis and appropriate transaction structuring and risk mitigation, as well as all other credit related requests to be submitted to Global Risk Management for adjudication and other internal approval groups. The Senior Manager is expected to be an expert of the inherent credit risks in the portfolio and will be responsible for some of the team's more complex requests, and counterparties which generate the highest level of revenue. Also, a Senior Manager needs to be available to step-in and provide seamless coverage of all accounts in the portfolio in the absence of any team member, including the Director.
  • Provide ongoing credit and execution support for marketers/product teams and traders which includes supporting new business products/initiatives and processing their limit requests within the requested timeline. The Senior Manager will become the primary service contact for the onboarding, credit execution and maintenance of these IB-GBM relationships for the Financial Institutions (FIs) assigned portfolio.
  • A strong interest in international issues, including an awareness of global trade flows and business trends (economic, technological, social, legal, regulatory and political conditions and other factors) which could impact the financial viability of a client within the Department's global footprint.
  • The oversight of the negotiation and review of credit documentation, such as the ISDA/CSA, GRMA and GMSLA, for new transactions and onboarding of new accounts for various Scotiabank entities. The Senior Manager will be aware of the standard terms that are acceptable to Scotiabank within these documents and will understand the mechanics of the terms.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Bank's lending policies, practices and procedures, as well as proven credit judgement.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, together with an ability to listen closely and ask relevant questions, are needed in order to interact with the many internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to independently manage a portfolio of FIs counterparties in various countries with varying banking sector dynamics, jurisdictions, accounting standards, regulatory requirements, etc.
  • Interpersonal and time management skills are essential, as is a strong aptitude for understanding and managing operational risks that impact the credit function.
  • Actively using various Scotiabank and IB and GBM Management Information Systems, trading and booking systems to provide accurate and relevant information as required.
  • It is essential for the Senior Manager to have a strong understanding of the regulatory framework of the relevant jurisdictions, in addition to an understanding of Scotiabank's internal Compliance/KYC/AML onboarding and remediation requirements.
  • Liaise with and manage relationships with Global Risk Management, Counterparty Credit Risk, Market Risk Management, Legal, Tax, Finance, Compliance, Global Wholesale Services, Global Capital Markets Documentation, and other Execution teams.
  • Collaborate with team members to share best practices and market insight to effectively manage the portfolio as a team. The Senior Manager is expected to actively mentor/train junior team members.
  • Senior Managers are expected to take initiative and challenge the status quo ultimately for positive change within GCM Banking.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Qualifications
  • Prior Banking experience in a credit or execution related role. Exposure to regions such as Latin America, Europe and Asia is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in a second major language (in particular, Spanish) is considered an asset.
  • University education or post-graduate education. An MBA or CFA is considered

  • Work with multiple trading and client management systems (ALGO, C360, CorrRisk, Salesforce)
  • The negotiation and review of documentation for related transactions for BNS, SCI, SBE, SBI, BNSAL, and SCUSA
  • Will liaise with GRM, CCR, MRM, Legal, Tax, Finance, Compliance, GWS, GCM Documentation, and other Execution teamsPrior Banking experience in a credit or execution related role. Exposure to regions such as Latin America, Europe and Asia is considered an asset.
  • Spanish is required

Work Arrangement:

Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. No travel required.
