Mattamy Asset Management

Department:

IT Enterprise Services

Employment Type:

Full-Time

Director, Platform Engineering

What we offer

In this role, you'll lead the development and delivery of Mattamy's AI program, shaping strategy and driving execution in partnership with leadership and key business stakeholders. You'll lead a team to design, build, and run AI solutions that change how a complex, enterprise-grade business operates. You'll shape the technology direction and reference architecture for the AI program, make the build-versus-buy and tooling calls, and lead the rollout of AI capabilities - from Copilot and productivity tools to custom-built agents. This is an ideal opportunity for a technical leader who wants to shape an AI program from the ground up, stay close enough to architecture to make the right calls, and drive measurable impact across the business.

What you'll do
  • Define and execute Mattamy's AI strategy and roadmap - prioritize use cases, set delivery sequencing, and align with business and IT leadership on outcomes and investment
  • Lead a team of AI engineers and a product owner, plus external delivery partners - set technical direction, manage performance, develop the team, and own the commercial relationship with delivery partners including SOWs, SLAs, and roadmap alignment
  • Lead technology selection and reference architecture for the AI program - make build-versus-buy calls, evaluate platforms and tooling, and define the standards and patterns that scale across builds
  • Stay hands-on where it counts - review designs and code, contribute to thorny architecture decisions, and unblock the team on the hardest technical problems
  • Drive enterprise AI adoption and AI literacy - select and implement the tooling stack (Copilot, productivity AI, custom agents), build and evolve a Center of Excellence with reusable patterns and enablement materials, and partner with the business to build AI fluency at every level of the organization
  • Own end-to-end delivery of AI solutions - from use-case shaping through production run, including observability, evaluations, incident response, and ongoing tuning for accuracy, latency, and cost
  • Operationalize and continuously improve the responsible AI and governance framework - data privacy, access controls, prompt and output safety, evaluation standards, and human-in-the-loop - and make sure every build meets it
  • Partner with business, data, security, and platform leaders to translate enterprise priorities into AI investments - define the measurement framework for AI value (adoption, productivity gains, cost-to-serve, time-to-decision) and support executive reporting on progress, risks, and outcomes

What you bring
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years delivering production AI/LLM solutions and 2+ years leading technical teams, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proven track record leading a team of engineers and external delivery partners - setting technical direction, developing people, and driving accountability on quality, cost, and timelines
  • Strong architecture judgment across modern AI stacks - Azure AI Foundry (or equivalent), OpenAI / Azure OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, RAG pipelines, agent orchestration, and enterprise integration patterns
  • Experience contributing to AI strategy and roadmap in a complex enterprise - translating business priorities into a sequenced delivery plan, build-versus-buy decisions, and a defensible technology stack
  • Hands-on enough to lead from the front - comfortable in design reviews and code reviews, conversant in Python or TypeScript, APIs, CI/CD, and modern AI tooling, and able to unblock the team on hard technical problems
  • Experience driving enterprise AI adoption - selecting and rolling out tooling (Copilot, productivity AI, custom agents), partnering with the business on change management, and measuring real usage and outcomes
  • Working knowledge of responsible AI and governance - data privacy and PII handling, access controls, prompt and output safety, bias and hallucination mitigation, and human-in-the-loop design
  • Strong written and verbal communication - able to engage executives on AI strategy, business value, and ROI, partner with business and IT leaders on priorities, and translate technical trade-offs into terms non-technical audiences can act on
