Description

Position Overview

BeVera Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior System Administrator to support and lead the IT infrastructure efforts at the Office of Advanced Molecular Detection (OAMD) at the CDC. This role requires an in-depth expertise in Linux system administration, infrastructure management, and security compliance. The Senior System Administrator will provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff while managing complex systems critical to public health initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Linux System Administration
  • Lead the administration of Linux environments (RHEL 8/9 preferred), RedHat/CentOS 8/9 environments, performing tasks at a level equivalent to a (RHCSA ) RedHat Certified Engineer.
  • Administering virtualized environments such as VmWare and/or Proxmox.
  • Scripting using Bash, Python, PERL, and/or Ruby.
  • Working experience with container technology initiatives, including Docker, Podman, and libvirt.
  • Experience with configuring and running Kubernetes.
  • Experience with HPC software such as Warewulf and Slurm
  • Oversee the configuration and management of BIND servers for IP address space management.
  • Manage and optimize local and network file systems, including permissions, encryption, and ACLs.
  • Supervise the administration of NAS storage appliances, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Mentor junior administrators in scripting using bash, Python, PERL, and Ruby.

Infrastructure Management
  • Lead the installation, update, and management of software core services, and system configurations using Ansible and bash shell scripts.
  • Provide expert-level management and troubleshooting of FreeIPA and Linux-based LDAP servers for authentication.
  • Ensure comprehensive system security through basic firewall and SELinux configurations.
  • Lead change management efforts, to create and execute change requests for maintenance, including documentation and after-action reports.
  • Oversee the administration of multiple NAS appliances providing File, Block, and Object storage solutions.
  • Develop and maintain advanced Ansible scripts to automate service configurations and optimize infrastructure performance.
  • Supervise the monitoring of environments with tools like Nagios, Zabbix, Sensu, and Prometheus.
  • Oversee the provisioning, management, and decommissioning of virtual servers in VMware.

Documentation and Issue Tracking
  • Ensure the maintenance of comprehensive system documentation in the online wiki.
  • Analyze security vulnerabilities, generate remediation plans, and execute remediation.
  • Ensuring proper project documentation including lifecycle and deadline specification.
  • Lead efforts in issue tracking using JIRA, ensuring project lifecycles are managed effectively.

Troubleshooting and Analysis
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts in a scientific computing environment, identifying and resolving complex issues.
  • Analyze and document running services, providing insights into process execution and service optimization.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance system performance and reliability.

Security and Compliance
  • Maintain and oversee secure password management protocols.
  • Lead security compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to all company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Perform advanced security vulnerability analysis and execute comprehensive remediation plans.


Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in Linux system administration, with at least 3 years in a senior role.
  • Minimum RedHat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification or equivalent.
  • Intermediate configuration management using modern systems (Ansible, Puppet).
  • Intermediate experience with scripting languages including Bash, Python, PERL, and Ruby.
  • Intermediate virtualization/hypervisor experience (VMware or equivalent).
  • Basic knowledge of container technology i.e., Docker, Podman, libvirt, etc
  • Advanced knowledge of VMware, Ansible, and security protocols.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality deliverables.
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Effective organization and strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to work on-site.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) clearance.
