Full Job Description
Senior Lighting Artist

Reports to: Creative Director

Permanent - Full-Time

What you will do:
  • Translate artistic intentions and concept illustrations into real-time lighting, while respecting the technical constraints of the game engine;
  • Produce high-quality lighting for environments and various gameplay situations;
  • Collaborate closely with level designers, environment artists, VFX artists, animators, and technical artists to develop lighting solutions aligned with artistic and design goals;
  • Strike the right balance between artistic intent, gameplay readability, and performance budgets for target platforms;
  • Use Unreal to deliver final work of high visual and technical quality;
  • Diagnose and optimize lighting-related performance issues.


What you bring:
  • Degree in 3D and/or other equivalent training;
  • 5+ years of industry experience as a lighting artist with significant real-time knowledge;
  • At least 1 shipped title, preferably on current-generation platforms, as a lighting artist;
  • Solid understanding of PBR workflows, real-time rendering, and various lighting and global illumination techniques (lightmaps, light probes, dynamic lighting, ray tracing, etc.);
  • Good understanding of composition, color, values, contrast, and visual storytelling;
  • Proactive in seeking feedback and communicating with the lighting lead, the art director, and other relevant departments.


Even better if you have:
  • In-depth knowledge of the various roles and stages of video game production;
  • Excellent understanding of the technical constraints specific to game engines and different platforms;
  • Experience with Unreal Engine profiling and optimization tools;
  • A good understanding of Unreal Engine's modern lighting systems, notably Lumen and Virtual Shadow Maps.
