Job Location: This position will be located at 205 Jefferson St., Jefferson City, MO 65101.
Responsibilities - What you'll do- Manage and coordinate all Sunshine Law requests and other record requests, including emails and records searches, tracking, and meeting deadlines.
- Assist the Chief Counsel in advising the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education by researching and responding to internal and external inquiries relating to case law, legislation, regulations, and federal and state statutes.
- Represent the Agency with stakeholders when the Chief Counsel is unavailable.
- Provide guidance to the Department on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Act as primary resource for records retention management and related questions.
- Assist in administrative rule review and act as Department resource for rule drafting and filing questions.
- Develop training materials and conduct legal presentations to staff and stakeholders and, where appropriate, seeking CLE credit.
- Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.

Qualifications - All you need for successMinimum Qualifications:- Graduated from an accredited law school with Juris Doctorate.
- Member of the Missouri Bar in good standing or able to attain a license to practice law in the state of Missouri within six months of being hired.
Preferred Qualifications: - Minimum two years' experience in state government, legal or closely-related policy experience.
