Job DescriptionWhat you'll accomplish with usAs a Senior Legal Counsel, reporting to the Assistant Director, Litigation, you'll be at the core of our mission. Here are the main responsibilities:
- Provide litigation services and legal support directly to iA Financial Group and its subsidiaries, while managing external counsel when required;
- Draft pleadings, motions, mediation briefs, pre-trial briefs, and other legal documents;
- Represent the organization at court proceedings, including motions, examinations for discovery, pre-trial conferences, and mediations;
- Negotiate and resolve claims and disputes in a cost-effective and business-oriented manner;
- Provide legal opinions and strategic advice on litigation matters and broader legal issues, including legislative analysis and legal research.

- Is known for their strong advocacy skills and deep understanding of litigation processes;
- Stands out for their excellent negotiation, oral, and written communication abilities;
- Demonstrates sound judgment and the ability to assess legal risks while balancing business objectives;
- Is recognized for their agility, initiative, client-service orientation, and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment;
- Has a Law Degree (LLB or JD), is licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, and possesses 5 to 10 years of experience in insurance litigation or a similar role, preferably within the life insurance or financial services industry;
- Is comfortable working in a continuous improvement environment and communicating complex legal concepts in plain language;
- Fluency in French is considered an asset.

The typical hiring range for this position is between $130,000 and $180,000 CAD per year; the base salary offered may vary depending on knowledge, skills, years of experience, and internal equity related to the role.
