Legal Counsel / Senior Legal Counsel - Onsite

Job Summary

GM Performance Power Units is seeking an exceptional lawyer with exceptional business acumen and proven collaborative skills to join the team in Concord as Legal Counsel / Senior Legal Counsel (level depending on qualifications). The successful candidate will report to the Chief Legal Officer and will be a high-impact generalist providing proactive, solution-oriented legal support across the entire business.

This is an individual contributor role for a seasoned lawyer who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, startup environment, overseeing a broad range of commercial, operational, and strategic matters, managing external counsel, and serving as a business partner across the company.

Key Responsibilities

In alignment with company objectives, specific responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Proactively provide legal services relating to a full spectrum of matters impacting a growing business, including corporate/commercial, employment and labor, immigration, IT, real estate, and safety.
• Oversee external legal counsel to ensure the company receives high-quality, cost-effective legal services.
• Communicate and manage effectively across internal and external functions.
• Contribute to the company's success by combining both legal and strategic business acumen with a strong understanding of the company's goals and operation as a key business partner.

Required Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admitted to practice in at least one US state.
• A proven track record of at least 8 years of legal experience, preferably within a top-tier law firm or dynamic in-house legal department.
• A business-minded, solution-oriented approach while maintaining a sleeves-rolled-up willingness to take on a significant working role in the company.
• Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely to both legal and non-legal audiences.
• Demonstrated history of personal and professional integrity, humility, self-awareness, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and past success forging relationships with business units.
• Proven ability to apply strong business acumen and problem-solving skills to issues that materially impact business and functional objectives.
• Willingness to work onsite at our headquarters in Concord, NC.

Preferred Qualifications

• A significant portion of legal experience gained in motorsports, employment law, immigration, or technology.
• Experience working in a joint venture or similar complex organizational structure.

• Experience standing up legal processes, building templates, or scaling a legal function within a startup, joint venture, or high-growth environment.
