ERS Electronics Lead
-OnsiteJob SummaryWe're looking for an expert ERS (Energy Recovery System) Electronics Lead to guide our ERS team in Concord, NC. In this vital leadership position, you'll direct the architecture, integration, and refinement of all electronic systems, emphasizing high-reliability power electronics, CU-K (inverter/DC-DC), power distribution, hardware engineering, cabling/harnesses, contactors, fuses, sensors, and seamless controls interfacing under the harshest race demands.
Direct a team of electrical engineers and work alongside multidisciplinary groups in controls software, mechanical integration, thermal design, and production to refine ERS electronics layout and output in the hybrid power unit in line with FIA standards. Guide validation testing, hardware prototyping, and ongoing enhancements to produce championship-caliber electronic systems that power victory.
Key Responsibilities
- Define system specs, efficiency benchmarks, and project milestones for ERS electronics, covering CU-K inverters, DC-DC converters, power distribution, connectors, fuses, sensors, and cabling/harnesses.
- Direct integrated teams-power electronics, controls firmware, hardware engineers, thermal, and manufacturing-to unify ERS electronics into the powertrain, targeting peak efficiency, mass reduction, thermal resilience, and track-proven durability.
- Supervise hardware prototyping, rig testing initiatives, and performance-based refinements (EMC, thermal, high-voltage cycling), steering technical groups toward validated, competition-ready outcomes.
- Conduct technical gate reviews, risk assessments (FMEA), records management, and adherence to FIA F1 rules for ERS power limits, safety protocols, and interface standards.
- Promote breakthroughs by championing R&D in cutting-edge semiconductors, compact packaging, high-voltage connectors, and manufacturing scalability for elite electronics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field with 5+ years of experience, or Master's/PhD degree with 3+ years in high-voltage inverter or power electronics design.
- Proficiency in PCB design tools (Altium preferred), and simulation software (LTSpice/Simulink/PLECs/PSIM) to conduct power/thermal modeling.
- Demonstrated success in high power, high efficiency inverter design, HV safety, and EMI/EMC mitigation particularly in top-tier motorsports.
Preferred Qualifications- Practical experience in motorsport hardware builds, dyno/track validation, and rapid prototyping.
- Expertise in wide-bandgap devices, advanced sensors, automated harness production, and data-driven optimization techniques.
- IPC standards, quality assurance frameworks, and proven team leadership in high-pressure settings.
