Senior/Lead Full-Stack AI Engineer

Position Description:

CGI is seeking a Senior/Lead Full Stack AI Engineer to join our dynamic team and help design, build, and scale AI-powered applications and platform capabilities. In this role, you will work across the full technology stack-from Python backend development and API construction to large language model (LLM) inference, machine learning, data pipelines, Angular frontend development, and cloud-native deployment. You will combine machine learning expertise, strong software engineering practices, and system design knowledge to deliver intelligent, production-ready solutions that solve real-world business challenges.

As a senior technical contributor and team leader, you will lead the development of key features and client use cases, provide technical direction, mentor junior team members, and help keep delivery on track. This role can be based in any CGI office in the U.S., with Knoxville, Tennessee as the preferred location.

Your future duties and responsibilities:
• Lead the design, development, and deployment of end-to-end full stack capabilities for CGI's AI Platform, including data pipelines, model training and inference, APIs, backend services, and user-facing applications
• Build and maintain scalable, efficient, secure, and production-ready backend systems using Python
• Train, fine-tune, evaluate, and perform inference with machine learning and Generative AI models to support enterprise use cases
• Integrate AI and LLM capabilities into production-grade applications with a focus on latency, performance, security, reliability, and scalability
• Partner with product managers, data scientists, UI/UX designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to design and deliver high-impact features and customer solutions
• Deploy and operate applications using CI/CD practices, containerization, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms
• Design, manage, and optimize relational and non-relational databases for performance, scalability, and reliability
• Lead technical design and implementation of system integrations while monitoring and continuously improving production systems
• Translate customer challenges into technical use cases and solutions using CGI's AI Platform
• Mentor junior team members, provide technical leadership, and lead or support a small Scrum team to maintain quality and delivery commitments

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
• 5+ years of full stack software development experience, including significant hands-on expertise with Python backend development and Angular frontend development
• 2+ years of hands-on experience building products or solutions leveraging Generative AI, NLP, document classification, chatbots, OCR, or related AI capabilities
• Hands-on experience with NLP libraries, machine learning frameworks, LLMs, model inference, model training, and/or fine-tuning techniques
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes concepts and experience deploying and managing containerized applications in production environments
• Proficiency with relational and non-relational databases, including database design, performance optimization, and reliability practices
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for deploying and scaling AI-enabled applications
• Strong software engineering and system design skills with demonstrated ownership and accountability for delivering production-ready systems in fast-paced environments
• Strong problem-solving capabilities and the ability to evaluate and adapt to rapidly evolving AI technologies
• Effective communication and leadership skills, including the ability to collaborate across functional teams and explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Desired qualifications / Strongly Preferred
• Experience leading a small Agile or Scrum development team and maintaining delivery against commitments
• Experience designing and operating enterprise-grade AI platforms or reusable AI services
• Knowledge of data privacy regulations, security best practices, responsible AI principles, and ethical considerations related to AI development
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and production observability for AI-enabled applications
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and provide technical direction across full stack and AI development initiatives

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $100,800.00 $176,300.00.
