Senior Java Software Engineer
Location: Remote (U.S.) / Travel to MD for Client/Internal Meetings few times a year

Compensation: $120,000-$140,000 annually, commensurate with experience (Negotiable to an Extent - possibility of 1099)

Position Overview
Global Alliant, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Software Engineer to support a mission-critical application modernization initiative for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This role involves designing, developing, enhancing, and maintaining secure, scalable enterprise applications using modern cloud-native technologies while collaborating within an Agile software development environment.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience developing enterprise Java applications, strong knowledge of cloud technologies, and a passion for delivering high-quality software that supports critical government operations.
Required Qualifications
* Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience with a focus on enterprise application development.
* Strong expertise in Java development with experience using Kotlin and exposure to Scala.
* Extensive experience developing Java-based web services and RESTful APIs.
* Experience working with Docker and containerized application development.
* Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, functional programming concepts, and software design patterns.
* Working knowledge of the Scala ecosystem, including commonly used frameworks and libraries.
* Strong SQL development skills with experience designing and querying relational databases.
* Experience developing applications within AWS cloud environments.
* Proficiency using Git or similar version control systems.
* Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
* Experience working in Agile/Scrum software development environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
* Amazon EMR (Spark) and OpenSearch administration, security, and scalability
* Apache Spark, including:
* Resilient Distributed Datasets (RDDs)
* DataFrames

Key Responsibilities
* Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable enterprise applications using Java and related technologies.
* Develop secure RESTful APIs and microservices.
* Build and deploy cloud-native applications within AWS.
* Collaborate with architects, developers, DevOps engineers, testers, and stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.
* Participate in code reviews and contribute to software quality and engineering best practices.
* Optimize application performance, reliability, and scalability.
* Support containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes.
* Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines.
* Troubleshoot production issues and implement effective solutions.
* Produce technical documentation and participate in Agile ceremonies.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
