We are currently looking for a Senior IT Project Manager for our Houston, TX office.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Senior IT Project Manager is responsible for leading the successful planning, execution, and delivery of complex, cross-functional technology initiatives that support the company's business systems, applications, and innovation objectives. This individual ensures that solutions are delivered within approved scope, schedule, budget, quality, security, and operational requirements.

This is a hands-on delivery leadership role and may manage multiple concurrent initiatives.

Unlike traditional project management roles, this position requires a proactive, execution-focused leader who not only manages timelines, scope, and risks but also actively partners with stakeholders and technical teams to drive decisions, resolve issues, remove obstacles, coordinate business and technical resources, and maintain forward momentum throughout the project lifecycle.

The successful candidate combines disciplined project management practices with strong business acumen, technical understanding, consultative problem-solving skills, and a modern approach to delivery. This includes appropriately leveraging Agile, hybrid, and traditional methodologies, as well as AI-enabled tools, automation, and data-driven insights to improve project performance and organizational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership and Delivery
  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex IT projects involving enterprise applications, business systems, data and analytics platforms, software development, cloud solutions, and related technologies.
  • Manage multiple projects or workstreams simultaneously while maintaining appropriate focus on priorities, risks, and business outcomes.
  • Manage projects throughout the complete lifecycle, including initiation, planning, requirements definition, solution evaluation, design, development, testing, implementation, stabilization, and transition to production support.
  • Develop project charters that clearly define business objectives, scope, expected benefits, success measures, assumptions, constraints, preliminary costs, and governance requirements.
  • Establish and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, resource plans, milestones, dependencies, and critical-path activities.
  • Select and apply Agile, Waterfall, hybrid, or other delivery approaches based on the needs, complexity, and risk profile of each initiative.
  • Maintain accountability for project commitments and ensure assigned team members understand their roles, responsibilities, deliverables, and deadlines.

Hands-On Execution and Problem Resolution
  • Actively drive project execution by facilitating decisions, resolving issues, removing obstacles, and coordinating actions across business, IT, and vendor teams.
  • Bring structure, clarity, and forward momentum to complex or ambiguous situations.
  • Identify potential delivery problems early and work with appropriate stakeholders to develop and implement practical solutions.
  • Challenge assumptions constructively and ensure project decisions are supported by appropriate business, technical, financial, and operational analysis.
  • Escalate significant risks, issues, resource constraints, and decisions in a timely manner, with clearly defined options and recommendations.

Business and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as a primary liaison between business stakeholders, IT teams, vendors, project sponsors, and executive leadership.
  • Build productive relationships with stakeholders at all organizational levels and create shared accountability for project outcomes.
  • Facilitate project initiation meetings, steering committee meetings, status reviews, and executive briefings.
  • Develop clear, concise, and audience-appropriate communications regarding project status, accomplishments, decisions, milestones, risks, issues, financial performance, and upcoming activities.
  • Promote timely decision-making and build consensus across groups with differing priorities or perspectives.

Financial, Resource, and Vendor Management
  • Develop and manage project budgets covering internal labor, external labor, software, hardware, cloud services, consulting, and other capital or operating expenditures.
  • Monitor project expenditures against approved budgets and provide accurate monthly forecasts, variance explanations, and estimates to complete.
  • Coordinate resource assignments across functional teams and proactively address capacity, capability, or scheduling constraints.
  • Manage vendor participation, deliverables, milestones, dependencies, and contractual commitments in coordination with IT leadership, Procurement, Legal, and other appropriate functions.
  • Review vendor estimates, statements of work, project schedules, and deliverables to ensure they are complete, realistic, and aligned with project objectives.
  • Hold internal and external resources accountable for agreed-upon commitments and quality expectations.

Risk, Governance, and Change Management
  • Proactively identify, assess, document, and mitigate project risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, and decisions.
  • Manage project scope and changes through established governance and change-control processes.
  • Assess the impact of proposed changes on business value, timeline, cost, resources, quality, security, contracts, and operational readiness.
  • Facilitate planning, coordination and delivery of organizational change management communications and training initiatives to help ensure end user adoption of implemented technology solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to IT PMO methodologies, governance standards, approval requirements, reporting expectations, and documentation practices.
  • Provide transparent, accurate, and data-driven reporting to sponsors, steering committees, IT leadership, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain complete and current project documentation in designated repositories.
  • Ensure required project approvals, stage gates, quality reviews, and control activities are completed and documented.

Solution Quality and Implementation Readiness
  • Oversee planning and execution of system testing, user acceptance testing, data conversion and production cutover / release activities to ensure they are effective and appropriately controlled, coordinated and documented.
  • Ensure implementation plans include defined responsibilities, dependencies, contingency procedures, communication protocols, validation activities, and rollback plans when appropriate.
  • Facilitate production-readiness reviews and ensure open defects, risks, and operational concerns are understood and appropriately addressed before implementation.
  • Coordinate a structured handoff to application support, infrastructure, cybersecurity, service management, and other operational teams.
  • Monitor post-implementation stabilization and ensure outstanding issues are assigned, prioritized, and resolved.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement
  • Use modern project delivery tools, AI-enabled capabilities, automation, and analytics to improve planning, forecasting, documentation, reporting, risk identification, and team productivity.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline project processes, reduce administrative effort, improve transparency, and accelerate decision-making.
  • Develop and use meaningful performance measures to evaluate project health, delivery predictability, business value, stakeholder engagement, and implementation readiness.
  • Share lessons learned, reusable practices, templates, and delivery insights across the PMO and broader IT organization.
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews to evaluate project outcomes, benefits realization, delivery effectiveness, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support the continued development and adoption of effective project management standards and practices.
