The Senior IT Business Systems Analyst is responsible for leading the analysis of business problems and developing requirements, product and process specifications and contribution towards product design efforts. The Senior Business Systems Analyst champions and contributes to the development of analysis standards, tools, processes and best practices.

This role applies advanced knowledge to complex work and supports project, product and operations teams by sharing skills and mentoring. This role leads the work to implement solutions to complex problems, which may be independently or through leading or supporting the collaboration with other stakeholders.

What you will do

The Senior IT Business Systems Analyst maintains a "business perspective" through all phases of the problem resolution and systems enhancement. Senior IT Business Systems Analysts work closely with the business to understand their needs, opportunities and requirements. Working in a team environment, the Senior IT Business Systems Analyst is responsible for:

  • Leading and orchestrating overall analysis, scoping, estimating and planning for large or complex initiatives, including elicitation and validation of business requirements and dependencies
  • Leads and facilitates meetings, walkthroughs, workshops, and reviews of deliverables
  • Ensures solutions and configurations meet business requirements and enterprise-level policy guidance (e.g. architecture, security, risk) and ensures the translation of those processes, needs and requirements into related artifacts and documentation
  • Defining business problems/opportunities, providing a clear definition and performing benefit analysis
  • Develops and validates solution design, configuration or package criteria with business stakeholders, articulating logical design alternatives and recommending appropriate solutions
  • Analyze and document current-state systems, workflows, and data flows to identify gaps and improvement opportunities
  • Perform and support data mapping, data migration, and integration activities across systems
  • Ensure data quality and integrity considerations are embedded in solution design
  • Partners with the QA team to ensure test strategies, plans and processes align with the business requirements and enables efficiencies in the work or testing process
  • Performs functional testing of system enhancements and supporting user acceptance testing of changes, within compliance controls and standards
  • Partners with product owners and/or architects to develop technical requirements and engineering/non-functional specifications
  • Define and manage transition to production readiness criteria, including operational, business, and technical checkpoints
  • Provides leadership by fostering and mentoring, an inspiring team environment


What you will bring

  • Degree in related discipline (Commerce/Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, etc.) or equivalent combination of training and experience with a minimum of 5+ years of experience in a senior business analysis role
  • Excellent understanding of business principles, developing effective working relationships with a broad variety of business functions
  • Proven leadership and internal consulting skills, with a commitment to customer service
  • Excellent understanding of general IT project methodologies, processes and practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills that rely on a structured approach
  • Proficient with data modelling techniques and tools, data mapping from source systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in an individual and team environment
  • Communicates effectively in writing and verbally with focus on attention to detail
  • Experience and comprehension to effectively work with legacy technologies and contribute as legacy applications evolve and are migrated to new platforms
  • Previous experience as a software developer in a mainframe environment would be an asset
  • Financial institution and/or wealth knowledge is an asset


Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: Toronto, London, Winnipeg.

The base salary for this position is between $80,400 - $130,400 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
