Job Description

Seeking UNIX Systems Engineer to support AIX and Linux based operating system platforms. Strong focus on RedHat Enterprise Linux system administration. Responsible for day-to-day administration of 500 + UNIX/Linux Servers (Physical, LPARS, VIOS and VMs). Servers are in multiple datacenters and multiple clouds Azure, Google, and Oracle. Develop and maintain automation tools and processes to help scale operations for UNIX/Linux based platforms.
Preferred Experience:

Systems Administration & Operations
  • Plans, coordinates, and performs AIX and RHEL-based operating system upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management
  • Leverages appropriate technical tools to perform day-to-day administration tasks, including backup, restore, failover, log interpretation, and performance monitoring
  • Audits and monitors system health, availability, and performance to ensure 24/7 uptime of production servers and applications
  • Resolves Tier 1 and Tier 2 incidents and service requests, with on-call availability on a team rotation outside normal business hours

Planning & Engineering
  • Participates in capacity and scalability planning to support current and future business demands
  • Partners with engineering, infrastructure, security, and project management teams to implement new systems and optimize existing environments
  • Researches, develops, and implements emerging technologies and best practices to drive continuous improvement

Disaster Recovery & Reliability
  • Responsible for Disaster Recovery (DR) testing and the restoration of critical services during both planned and unplanned DR events
  • Provides systems and services expertise to drive operational best practices and service resilience

Documentation & Collaboration
  • Collaborates with technical writers to develop and maintain internal SOPs and service handbooks for key systems and services
  • Develops and maintains positive, cooperative relationships across teams and stakeholders, interacting in a professional, transparent, and honest manner

Root-Cause Analysis & Problem Resolution
  • Conducts root-cause analysis and executes service restoration procedures using industry-standard diagnostic and monitoring tools
  • Provides operational expertise to identify systemic issues and recommend long-term solutions


Highly Preffered Skills:
  • Solid understanding of Linux internals and networking concepts. •
  • Strong AIX / Linux administration experience. • Advanced industry certifications such as RHSE a plus.
  • Experience with RedHat Satellite, content management, patch management, and provisioning of RHEL systems.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as IBM VIOS, VMware, and Cloud services.
  • Experience with Unix shell scripting. . Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Kickstart, etc.
  • Experience with system performance monitoring, troubleshooting & tuning.
  • Experience with backup technologies. . Administration experience with LVM.
  • Proven technical experience and a solid foundation in operating systems.
  • Strong work ethic and have a natural tendency to take ownership of incidents & requests.
  • Good team communication skills, with technical and non-technical colleagues


Job Responsibility

  • Guides the infrastructure system analysis, definition, verification, and validation to ensure the evolving systems meet the requirements for the organization, including weekly review and monitoring of capacity and performance reports. Attends architectural review board meetings to ensure standards and the appropriate technical solutions are implemented. Manages ticket queues to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner, ensuring Service Level Agreements are met. Performs related duties as required.
