Full Job Description
Job Purpose:
The Senior Information Technology Systems Engineer provides cross-functional systems-administration support across multiple research and technical environments. This role supports Windows, macOS, and Linux systems; performs backup, patching, recovery, and user-support activities; and assists with enterprise applications, scientific software, networking, and cybersecurity compliance. The position serves as a senior technical resource capable of providing surge and operational support where needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, administer, and maintain Windows, macOS, and Linux systems and servers.
  • Provide daily system-administration and technical support to users across multiple organizational environments.
  • Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and troubleshoot operating systems and software applications.
  • Perform backup management, recovery planning, and system-restoration activities.
  • Troubleshoot computer hardware, operating-system, software, and network-related issues.
  • Support switched Ethernet networking using IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.
  • Administer user accounts, hosts, permissions, and related system records.
  • Maintain databases, technical logs, asset records, and system documentation.
  • Support Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Teams, virtual private network clients, and collaboration applications.
  • Support voice-over-internet-protocol, emergency-alert, antivirus, and endpoint applications.
  • Support Windows Subsystem for Linux, Hyper-V, and VMware virtual machines.
  • Install and support scientific applications and associated software licenses.
  • Recommend technology purchases and obtain quotes for computers, servers, printers, scanners, and software.
  • Install and configure approved hardware and software in accordance with Department of Defense guidelines.
  • Implement Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guides and Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts.
  • Support security hardening and compliance activities for Windows, Linux, macOS, and mobile devices.
  • Administer Department of Defense Common Access Card Public Key Infrastructure tools, including ActivClient, Centrify, and CAC Key.
  • Assist with incident resolution, patch deployment, application troubleshooting, and user-support requests.
  • Maintain current technical procedures, configuration records, and standard operating procedures.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Approximately 10 to 15 years of experience supporting Windows, macOS, and Linux systems and servers.
  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise systems administration.
  • Experience performing backup management, recovery planning, and recovery implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of IPv4, IPv6, and switched Ethernet networking.
  • Experience supporting hardware, operating systems, software applications, and virtual machines.
  • Experience implementing Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guides and Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts.
  • Familiarity with Department of Defense Common Access Card Public Key Infrastructure tools.
  • Experience supporting scientific or technical software applications is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and customer-support skills.
  • Ability to manage competing technical priorities and provide support across multiple teams.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
