Full Job Description
What you will do:

As a Senior Industrial Systems Designer, you will design, develop and document advanced plant systems for Electra's pilot and industrial-scale operations. This position focuses on integrating robust, cost-effective mechanical systems that support efficient plant performance and long service life.

Responsibilities include:
  • Design and continuously improve industrial systems and plant layouts using 3D modeling software based on defined design parameters, functional requirements, and equipment lists
  • Integrate OEM and supplier components and equipment into complete mechanical and process systems
  • Create and maintain designs for process equipment, skid-mounted systems, tanks, piping, and vessels, including structural, mechanical, instrumentation, and automation documentation packages
  • Create and maintain pilot plant processing system designs and full documentation packages (mechanical, process, instrumentation, and automation)
  • Coordinate with process and controls engineers, with equipment suppliers and with contractors during installation, startup and commissioning of equipment and systems for Electra's plants at various locations. Review installation and follow up on action items to correct deficiencies
  • Prepare detailed layout and general arrangement drawings for equipment layouts, with plan and elevation details, piping isometrics, duct and tube routings using CAD tools for both in-house build and site installation
  • Use PDM systems to properly control and revise designs and manage libraries of 3D models of equipment and components of piping and duct systems
  • Utilize and maintain engineering Vault/PDM systems, including part numbering, data cards, engineering release workflows, and change management
  • Read, understand, and comply with workplace health and safety policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

What we need you to bring to the team:

  • Associate's degree in Design with 10+ years of progressively complex experience in plant design, systems integration, and industrial equipment layout, or Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 8+ years of relevant professional experience (excluding internships, co-ops, and academic projects)
  • Advanced experience developing complex industrial system designs, equipment layouts, and integrated plant solutions within processing, manufacturing, chemical, minerals, or similar industrial environments
  • Proficiency creating 3D equipment layouts, general arrangement (GA) drawings, and pipe, tube, and duct routing using SolidWorks or similar CAD platforms
  • Experience designing skid-mounted systems, processing equipment, tanks, vessels, structural frames, and integrated mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate automation hardware, controls systems, and robotics into industrial mechanical designs while considering equipment interactions, operability, maintainability, and plant performance
  • Strong understanding of human factors, ergonomics, operational safety, and industrial design best practices within complex facility environments
  • Ability to apply advanced technical knowledge, professional judgment, and problem-solving skills to develop practical, scalable, and cost-effective engineering solutions for complex challenges
  • Proven ability to lead internal projects, mentor junior team members, collaborate across disciplines, and effectively influence stakeholders in a fast-paced, high-growth environment focused on innovation and sustainability

What we want you to bring to the team:

  • Practical experience with AutoCAD P&ID, Plant 3D, or similar plant design software
  • Experience integrating automation hardware, controls systems, or robotics into industrial system designs
  • Advanced proficiency with complex 3D layouts and routing within processing or manufacturing environments
  • Background designing systems involving aggressive media, corrosive liquids, or high-temperature industrial environments
  • Familiarity with large-scale industrial facilities within mining, oil & gas, chemical processing, or power generation industries
  • Experience supporting Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) activities during production scale-up efforts
  • Experience applying advanced safety, ergonomics, and human-factor design principles within industrial environments
  • Advanced SolidWorks experience, including PDM/Vault workflows and library management
  • Experience working within startup, pilot plant, or rapid-growth technical environments

Compensation:
  • The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $100,000-$150,000 and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.

Benefits For You:
  • 100% paid premiums across all medical, dental, vision, telemedicine, short-term disability, long-term disability, and basic life insurance plans
  • $1,800 in annual employer HSA contributions (health savings account)
