Independence Blue Cross (IBX) is looking for a Senior Research Analyst in a unique role that combines healthcare policy and outcomes with advance analytical functions aimed at improving whole-person health for our members while aiming to reduce medical cost. This position will report to the Manager, Reporting and Analytics within the Informatics Department of IBX to perform three key functions: 1) Support IBX's Health Value Optimization (HVO) initiative by evaluating changes to medical and claims payment policies, the effectiveness of external health vendors, and deliver insights for medical cost savings opportunities. 2) Support IBX's Behavioral Health (BH) endeavors and provide insights and solutions to improve members' physical and mental health wellbeing. 3) Grow IBX's Health Equity endeavors by analyzing the impact of social determinants of health on our membership and explore possible solutions to overcome social risk barriers.
Primary Responsibilities
• Expert in using SQL (Big Query) or R needed for pulling, exploring, and transforming data from a large datasets including medical/pharmacy claims, demographic, authorizations, and provider databases into usable datasets for analysis
• Interpret, summarize, and present analytic results in a clear, concise manner for both technical and non-technical audiences, to help drive effective decision-making processes.
• Collaborate with a variety of business stakeholders across the company to discuss methodology and analytical asks to find optimal solutions to business problems and present those results in a manner that can be actionable and understandable.
• Develop presentations and data visualizations for communicating based on specific stakeholder requests or requirements.
• Ideate custom data and analytic solutions for business problems
• Provide ad hoc reporting as requested by internal business stakeholders with ability provide useful analytical findings and results related to the business question in a timely manner.
Qualifications
• Has a master's degree in a related quantitative field such as Master's of Public Health (MPH), Epidemiology, Master's of Healthcare Administration (MHA) or a related quantitative field such as Statistics, Actuarial Science, MBA, or social sciences.
• Demonstrates very strong SQL / R programming skills with proven experience in data extraction from large, longitudinal databases, performing data transformation and cleansing and the ability to perform QA and data reasonability checks
• Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience in an analytical environment with a plus of having worked in a healthcare field such as health insurance, Pharma, or health delivery systems such as a hospital, clinic or doctor's office.
• Intermediate/advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, storytelling graphs, complex formulas, etc.)
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with experience engaging directly with business leaders including high-ranking executives.
• Comfortable working independently possessing strong project management and problem-solving skills to meet hard deadlines.
• Ability to tell a concise and succinct story with data visualization using software such as Power Point, Tableau, and Excel.
• Experience in advanced analytics or Statistics with the ability to visualize and summarize quantitative results is a plus.

Hybrid
Independence has implemented a "Hybrid" model which consists of Associates working in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) and remotely 2 days a week (Monday & Friday). This role is designated as a role that fits into the "Hybrid" model. While associates may work remotely on our designated remote days, the work must be performed in the Tri-State Area of Delaware, New Jersey or Pennsylvania.
