Full Job Description
Atom Computing is seeking a Senior Test Engineer to join our Control Systems team. In this role, you will own the development and execution of test strategies for custom RF and mixed-signal electronic systems that support the operation of our quantum computers. You will work across the full product lifecycle, from prototype bring-up and characterization through production test development and manufacturing support.

This is a hands-on role that combines hardware debugging, automated test development, fixture design, and close collaboration with hardware, FPGA, firmware, and software engineers. The position is based on-site in our Boulder, Colorado office and reports to the Control Systems Hardware Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Own production testing for a variety of custom RF and mixed-signal instruments. This includes test plan/procedure creation, fixture definition and design, software design and instrument automation
  • Design test fixtures and equipment as required to perform acceptance tests on a variety of hardware equipment.
  • Actively participate in instrument design reviews and advocate for and assist in ensuring a high level of design for manufacturability (DfM) and test (DfT)
  • Actively participate in the bring-up, verification, testing, and debug of control system hardware systems, collaborating closely with FPGA, firmware, and software engineers.
  • Develop characterization, verification / validation, and automated test procedures and programs for various electronics components.
  • Work with assembly / test houses to ensure good coverage of board functionality and ease the process of board bring-up and verification
  • Design tests to automatically log key instrument metrics to be used for board specifications and track and learn from these to improve the quality and yield of our instruments

Experience & Education

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering,
  • 7+ years of experience in RF hardware testing, validation, or integration.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Demonstrated proficiency with electronic test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum and logic analyzers, signal generators).
  • Working knowledge of automated testing best practices and a keen attention to detail.
  • Capable in scripting languages (e.g., Python) for basic data acquisition, instrument control, and automating hardware test and characterization.
  • Strong debugging and analytical problem-solving skills. Ability to read schematics, interpret datasheets, and analyze test data.
  • Capable of lifting and moving objects that weigh up to 25 pounds

Desired:

  • Experience working in a Linux environment.
  • Familiarity with RF design concepts and/or software defined radio.
  • Familiarity with the MicroTCA, PXIe, or similar pluggable instrument standards
