Description

Akima is seeking a Group Sr. Finance Director to provide strategic financial leadership for a fast-growing $1B business group. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Financial Officer of Akima and work closely with the Group President and executive leadership team to drive financial performance and profitable growth.

 

Based in Huntsville, Alabama, the Group Sr. Finance Director will have overall financial oversight of the business group and will serve as a key strategic advisor to senior leadership. This is a highly hands-on role requiring strong Federal contracting expertise, financial acumen, business judgment, and the ability to translate financial results into actionable business strategies.

 

This Hybrid position requires that you live within commuting distance from Huntsville, AL.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic financial guidance and decision support to the Group President and executive leadership team.
  • Oversee financial performance across the Group's contracts and operating companies
  • Lead and develop finance and project controls personnel, establishing clear priorities, accountability, and performance expectations.
  • Manage the annual budgeting process for the Group.
  • Oversee the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Provide oversight of revenue recognition and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, forecasts, and key performance indicators.
  • Review and challenge Estimate at Completion (EAC) projections to assess contract performance, risks, and profitability.
  • Develop strategies to optimize cash flow, working capital, and Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
  • Perform investment and business case analyses to support strategic decision-making.
  • Lead the preparation of quarterly business reviews and provide insightful analysis of financial and operational performance.
  • Support forward pricing activities and financial analysis for new business proposals.
  • Assist in managing indirect headcount, bid and proposal (B&P) costs, and other indirect expenses.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, reporting, and overall business performance.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), company policies, and internal controls.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required; MBA preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive financial management experience, including significant experience supporting a Federal Government contractor.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial management of government contracts and contract-level financial performance.
  • Strong understanding of fringe benefit and labor-related costs, including requirements applicable to Service Contract Act (SCA) and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)/union workforces.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Federal contracting principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with C-suite and executive leadership and influence business decisions.
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, forecasting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, growing organization.
  • Hands-on leadership style with the ability to balance strategic thinking with detailed financial execution.
  • Working knowledge of Costpoint ERP and Cognos preferred/required.
