Position Description:

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and support scalable enterprise applications end to end. You will work across the stack - architecting Java based microservices, deploying them on AWS, and building the React interfaces that sit on top of them.
This is a hands on senior role. You will own features from design through production support, set the technical bar for quality and testing, and mentor junior engineers on the team. You will work in a fast paced Agile environment alongside product managers, architects, QA, and operations.
This position is located in our Houston, Texas office however a hybrid working model is acceptable. The requirement is an average of 3 days onsite at either client location and/or the CGI Houston, Texas office.

Key Responsibilities

. Design, develop, and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs using Core Java and Spring Boot.
. Architect and implement microservices that are modular, scalable, and maintainable, applying proven design patterns.
. Build and deploy cloud native applications on AWS, including serverless components using AWS Lambda and event streaming with Amazon MSK.
. Provision and manage cloud infrastructure as code using Terraform.
. Develop responsive, component based user interfaces in React and integrate them with backend services.
. Design and manage relational database schemas, queries, and performance tuning on Oracle and/or PostgreSQL.
. Write and maintain automated unit and integration tests using JUnit and Mockito; keep code coverage and quality standards high.
. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Git, Docker, and Harness.
. Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical design sessions.
. Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including root cause analysis and preventive fixes.
. Mentor junior developers and contribute to team wide engineering standards and documentation.
. Collaborate with cross functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Required Qualifications
Core Java & Backend

. 7+ years of professional experience in Core Java, with strong command of OOP principles, multithreading and concurrency, collections, and JVM internals (memory model, garbage collection, performance tuning).
. Proven experience building scalable microservices and RESTful APIs with Spring Boot and the broader Spring ecosystem.

Cloud & AWS

. Hands on experience deploying and optimizing applications on the AWS Cloud Platform.
. Practical experience with serverless computing using AWS Lambda.
. Experience with Amazon MSK (Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka) or equivalent event streaming platforms.
. Experience provisioning infrastructure as code with Terraform.
. Ability to design cloud applications for scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.

Front End

. 3+ years of experience with React (or a comparable framework such as Angular or Vue.js).
. Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
. Experience building dynamic, component based UIs and integrating them with backend APIs.

Engineering Practices

. Strong grasp of system design, microservices architecture, and design patterns that support modularity and maintainability.
. Disciplined approach to automated testing using JUnit, Mockito, and continuous integration.
. Working knowledge of DevOps principles and tooling: Git for version control, Docker for containerization, and Harness (or comparable tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI) for CI/CD pipelines.

Data & APIs

. Solid experience designing and managing relational databases such as Oracle and PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization.
. Expertise designing and consuming RESTful APIs for communication across application layers.

Preferred Qualifications

. AWS certification (Solutions Architect, Developer, or DevOps Engineer).
. Experience with Kafka based event driven architectures at scale.
. Experience with observability and monitoring tooling (CloudWatch, Datadog, Splunk, or similar).
. Experience supporting production applications in a regulated or enterprise environment.
. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $89,600.00 $218,200.00.
