Position Description: Own Canadian Indirect Tax Compliance for a Global Organization
Are you a CPA or experienced accounting professional with a strong background in Canadian indirect tax and statutory compliance?
CGI is seeking a Senior Indirect Tax Analyst to join our Financial Business Services team. In this highly visible role, you will become the primary owner of Canadian indirect tax compliance across multiple legal entities, ensuring accurate and timely GST, HST, PST, and QST filings while partnering with finance, tax, audit, and business leaders across Canada and internationally.

This position is a 15-month maternity leave contract with a comprehensive knowledge transfer period, providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to develop expertise before assuming full ownership of the role.
As the primary Canadian indirect tax specialist within the Finance team, you will take ownership of indirect tax compliance across multiple Canadian legal entities. The role requires someone who is comfortable working independently, exercising sound professional judgement, and confidently managing compliance activities while partnering with stakeholders across Finance, Tax, Audit and the wider business.
While this is a fixed-term maternity cover position, successful candidates may have the opportunity to be considered for future openings within CGI, subject to business needs.
Your future duties and responsibilities: Lead Canadian Indirect Tax Compliance
• Prepare, review, and file monthly GST, HST, PST, and QST returns for multiple Canadian legal entities
• Ensure timely and accurate indirect tax filings and remittances
• Reconcile sales tax general ledger accounts
• Prepare and post related journal entries
• Investigate and resolve tax variances and reconciliation issues
Serve as the Indirect Tax Subject Matter Expert
• Act as the primary point of contact for Canadian sales tax questions
• Partner with internal finance teams on tax-related matters
• Support provincial and federal sales tax audits
• Monitor legislative changes affecting indirect tax compliance
• Liaise with external auditors and government agencies as required
Support Financial Compliance
• Assist with statutory financial statement preparation
• Support SOX compliance and internal control activities
• Prepare withholding tax calculations and related journal entries
• Collaborate with international finance teams on statutory reporting initiatives
Drive Continuous Improvement
• Identify opportunities to automate and improve tax and accounting processes
• Recommend efficiencies that reduce risk and improve accuracy
• Support finance transformation initiatives across the organization
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• CPA designation or equivalent accounting qualification preferred
• Strong knowledge of Canadian indirect taxes (GST, HST, PST, and QST)
• Experience preparing and filing Canadian sales tax returns
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and general ledger reconciliations
• Experience preparing journal entries
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong organizational and time management abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently meeting deadlines
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $65,000-$115,000.
