Role SummaryBloom Energy is seeking a high-performing Senior Financial Analyst to join the Commercial Finance team. This role will support budget management, forecasting, reporting, and business partnership for Sales, Services, and Marketing, with responsibility for both headcount and non-headcount investments. The analyst will partner closely with functional leaders to manage spend, evaluate investment tradeoffs, and provide clear financial insights that help the business allocate resources effectively.
The role will also own and improve reporting across key commercial performance metrics, including pipeline, marketing ROI, bookings, and backlog. Success in this position requires strong FP&A discipline, analytical curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to translate data into actionable recommendations for senior business partners.
LocationThis role is based in San Jose, CA, and Bloom has a 5-day in-office culture. Some travel may be required.
Responsibilities- Manage financial planning, forecasting, and reporting for Sales, Services, and Marketing, including annual operating plan, quarterly forecasts, monthly outlooks, and variance analysis.
- Partner with business leaders to manage headcount plans, hiring assumptions, open requisitions, and workforce-related expense trends.
- Track and analyze non-headcount investments, including marketing programs, sales commissions, consultants and contractors, travel and entertainment, and technology/tools spend.
- Build and maintain financial models to evaluate budget scenarios, investment tradeoffs, resource allocation, and functional performance.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly management reporting for budget performance, key drivers, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.
- Develop and improve pipeline metric reporting, partnering with Marketing and Sales Operations to ensure data consistency, visibility, and actionable insights.
- Analyze marketing ROI by connecting program spend to pipeline generation, conversion, bookings contribution, and other relevant performance indicators.
- Support bookings and backlog reporting, including trend analysis, bridge explanations, and insights into commercial execution and future revenue visibility.
- Partner with the Controller's organization on close, accruals, commission accounting inputs, and reconciliations to ensure financial data integrity.
- Identify and drive process improvements to standardize, simplify, and automate budget tracking, reporting, and business review materials.
- Develop AI-enabled workflows, tools, and scalable solutions to simplify manual processes, improve reporting efficiency, and enhance decision support across Finance.
- Support special projects, business cases, and ad-hoc analyses as needed.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive finance experience, including FP&A, commercial finance, sales finance, marketing finance, corporate finance, investment banking, or equity research.
- Strong financial modeling skills, with experience building forecasts, scenario analyses, budget trackers, and management reporting packages.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, headcount planning, and operating expense management.
- Ability to analyze sales, marketing, or commercial performance metrics such as pipeline, bookings, backlog, commissions, conversion, or ROI.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using enterprise systems and BI tools such as SAP, Oracle, Anaplan, Hyperion, Power BI, QuickSight, Tableau, Salesforce, or similar platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial results and business drivers to cross-functional leaders.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting Sales, Services, Marketing, Commercial Operations, or Go-to-Market finance.
- Familiarity with sales pipeline, bookings, backlog, sales commissions, marketing program ROI, or customer lifecycle economics.
- Experience in energy, power generation, capital equipment, electric vehicles, semiconductors, or another capital-intensive hardware business.
- Experience at a public company.
- MBA, CPA, CFA, or CMA (or in progress).
