Job Description

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Environmental Planning professional focused on transportation to join our Environmental Planning and Permitting (EPP) team in Phoenix, AZ. You will work with a team of technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas delivering environmental planning, impact assessment, environmental documentation and compliance services to transportation clients.

In this role you will lead transportation planning projects, State highway facilities planning and development, and possibly transit, bike and other low-carbon transportation project planning and permitting. Roadway transportation projects will include interaction with senior project managers and task leaders, Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) staff, and representatives from local, regional, state, and federal agencies. In this role you may serve as a project manager, deputy project manager, task manager, or senior technical specialist, depending on the project assignment.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) expertise and permitting oversight, authority, and accountability for projects.
  • Provide environmental support to for transportation projects including support of Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) projects.
  • Serve as a Project Manager on different size projects, including financial management and reporting, subconsultant oversight, and technical staff management.
  • Respond to ongoing requests to support ADOT projects, including refining task needs, scoping and costing tasks, and identifying and assigning technical staff.
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards are met on all project deliverables.
  • Provide leadership in mentoring personnel, including reviewing their work for accuracy and clarity and providing constructive feedback.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental planning or related field.
  • 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in successfully coordinating and managing NEPA document preparation and technical studies for transportation projects.
  • Valid Driver's license is required for this role.
  • Due to the nature of this role, U.S Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in successfully coordinating and managing NEPA document preparation, technical studies, and business development for transportation projects.
  • Experience working on or understanding regulatory and permitting requirements for Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and/or Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) projects.
  • Ability to write a range of NEPA documents and support technical documentation for transportation projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to effectively manage projects and interact with teams of staff, subconsultants, and clients.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Adobe Portable Document Format application programs.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate a high level of competence and experience in working with teams, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory personnel.
  • Exceptional detail orientation and attention to quality.
  • Experience in marketing and business development efforts in pursuit of new projects.
