Job Description

The Senior Engineering Specialist will develop solutions to a wide range of complex technical problems requiring an extensive knowledge of the subject and familiarity with related disciplines. Some duties of this role include leading evaluations and studies, setting policies and procedures around data and records management, conducting and analyzing research, managing projects, and working directly with customers. The most successful candidates will have analytical and reporting experience with knowledge of Power BI and the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel. They will be providing analytical support for PSE's Gas Operations and Compliance departments. This role exercises considerable latitude in determining the technical objectives of an assignment and may support emergency response operations when needed.

This job is considered "safety sensitive" as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs the most complex and non-standard project work in support of department needs using applications and tools specific to job assignment and discipline. Examples may include:
    • Prepares and directs others in the preparation of engineering plans, designs, specifications, and standards.
    • Develops and prepares studies to identify specific program objectives and establish investment levels.
    • Maintains up to date knowledge of industry codes and regulations. Leads the team in maintaining compliance with current requirements and directs necessary research.
    • Prepares cost estimates and project or program evaluations.
    • Interacts and coordinates directly with internal and external customers to understand project requirements.
    • Performs or manages the creation and updating of job work orders and project documentation including tasks, calculations, and reporting.
    • Conducts complex office and field research, measurement and verification of equipment data, and creates and updates equipment records.
    • Leads, directs and performs data and records management.
  • Ensures compliance with codes, standards, and design, operation, and maintenance requirements.
  • Interprets and/or modify available guidelines for application to existing problems or processes.
  • Coordinates the work of others who assist in specific assignments (including contractors/consultants).
  • Responsible for driving improvements and maintaining department standards, processes, templates, tools and databases.
  • May function in a technical leadership role as part of a project team.
  • Effectively communicates complex technical information, both written and verbal to team members, internal and external customers.
  • Checks and reviews complex project work of others. Provides technical leadership, training, and mentorship to other personnel.
  • Ensures that problem solutions are tailored to PSE's business environment.
  • Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience using a variety of business applications and analysis tools such as Visio, Power BI, Microsoft Office Suite, SAP Business Warehouse, and SAP modules.
  • Experience using GIS


Additional Information

The pay range for this position is $82,000.00 - $136,300.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
