About the Role
The Senior Engineer will oversee the design and delivery of facilities associated with expansion and maintenance capital projects. You will ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and applicable industry codes while managing third-party engineering firms to deliver projects on time and on budget. Working closely with internal teams across Project Execution, Operations, and Shared Services, you will ensure that all project requirements are effectively integrated into design deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the development of project scope, schedule, cost estimates, execution plans, and risk assessments for assigned facility projects
  • Ensure all facility designs meet applicable regulations, industry codes, and corporate standards
  • Manage third-party engineering firms to execute design deliverables within approved budgets and schedules
  • Review and approve design documents, including drawings, technical reports, and material lists
  • Evaluate vendor materials quotations, complete technical bid evaluations, and collaborate with Supply Chain on procurement
  • Incorporate lessons learned from previous projects into future designs
  • Provide technical support to Construction teams during project execution
  • Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Support and/or lead departmental initiatives as required
  • Ensure that project scope complies with all regulatory, environmental, health, and safety requirements
  • Provide support and collaboration across various internal departments, including Engineering Projects, Legal, Health & Safety, and Operations
Key Relationships
  • Project Manager Weekly updates on progress, cost, schedule, and risk
  • Supervisor, Facilities Project Engineering Weekly or bi-weekly status reporting
  • External Engineering Firms Daily oversight and coordination
  • Operations Weekly updates and design input discussions
Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (applicable discipline)
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in engineering and project management
Preferred:
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation
  • Proven ability to innovate, manage change, and drive results
  • Strong skills in prioritization and managing multiple projects
  • Ability to resolve complex technical and business issues
  • Awareness of stakeholder interrelationships (internal and external)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences
Working Conditions
  • Primarily office-based environment
  • Occasional field visits requiring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Some overnight travel may be required
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented setting
