Job Description:

Microchip Technology Inc. has a Senior Engineer II-Applications opening in the Networking and Communications Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for enabling customers to be successful with USB products. Responsibilities include training sales and field engineers on the products, answering customer questions, debugging system implementation problems, writing documentation to make the products easy to use, and developing evaluation hardware to demonstrate the product features.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct technical support to sales and field application engineers as well as key strategic customers.
  • Work with product marketing and end customers to understand product requirements and end goals and steer new product development to ensure product goals are met.
  • Advocate for new development of companion silicon products with peer business unit leaders to create Microchip total system solution.
  • Coordinate with product marketers to initiate and maintain technical partnerships with other silicon vendors to provide joint collateral (e.g. reference schematics, evaluation & form-factor hardware designs) and collaborative pre-production customer support.
  • Develop and present technical training such as webinars, hands-on workshops, etc. to customers, sales and field application engineers.
  • Developing collateral such as application notes, data sheets, reference designs, and other activities for new product development.


Requirements/Qualifications:

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent discipline with a minimum of 7.5 years of experience, or Masters degree in electrical engineering or equivalent discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce good quality engineering documentation.
  • Experience in Silicon/System Architecture, Applications Engineering, or Systems Engineering roles.
  • Experience in designing hardware systems.
  • Strong understanding of mixed signal systems and inter-chip protocols.
  • Basic understanding of software design.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience and schedule flexibility to effectively collaborate with USB & Networking group's de-centralized global engineering teams.
  • Experience in working with high-speed interfaces including USB, PCI Express, Ethernet, etc.
  • Experience in directly designing electrical circuits/system design/reference design schematic capture with software based PCB design tools (e.g. Altium, Cadence).
  • Leader/direct contributor in technical role/s to bring three (3) or more silicon products to market.
  • Embedded and/or application programming experience (e.g. C, Python, LabView etc.) including commercial products, personal and/or open-source projects.
  • Experience in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Proficient with essential lab equipment including function generators, power supplies, multi-meters and oscilloscopes.
  • Debugging experience with serial protocol analyzers (inter-chip protocols, USB, PCIe, etc.)
  • Contributor or company liaison for international standards/special interest groups.
  • Experience in working with hardware and microcontroller-based designs.
  • Experience in technical training development and presentation.
  • Experience in direct customer service and support.
