Position Overview:Join a forward looking product engineering team as a Senior Electrical Systems Integration Engineer 1, responsible for designing, integrating, and supporting vehicle level electrical systems for commercial vehicle upfits. This role focuses on electrical architecture, wiring harness integration, power distribution, and module communication - bridging chassis electrical systems with customer equipment and controls.
This is a hands on, system level engineering role, ideal for engineers who enjoy solving real world problems on real vehicles. It is not a hardware or software development position, but rather a role centered on how electrical systems function, interact, and perform in the field.
Duties & Responsibilities:- Design and integrate electrical systems that interface chassis wiring, harnesses, modules, and customer equipment
- Develop adapters and electrical solutions to connect OEM chassis electrical systems with upfit components
- Interpret and utilize OEM electrical documentation, schematics, and interface information
- Collaborate with chassis manufacturers and suppliers to obtain electrical architecture and integration details
- Support internal teams and distributors by troubleshooting electrical and wiring issues
- Perform electrical testing and diagnostics on vehicle and body electrical systems
- Collaborate with Supplier Quality and Vendors through a PPAP and FAI process for electrical components.
- Author Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to implement updated wiring architecture, components, system improvements, or engineering standards.
- Apply mechanical aptitude when required, including development of brackets or mounting solutions for electrical components
- Participate in cross functional projects involving controls, automation, diagnostics, and safety features
- Occasional travel to support field troubleshooting or validation (approximately 5% domestic travel)
Position Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Related engineering discipline
- 6 years of experience in vehicle, automotive, commercial, off road, or industrial electrical systems (Equivalent hands on project or design team experience may be considered for early career candidates)
- Candidates with strong design team or applied project experience are particularly encouraged to apply, including: SAE Formula / Formula Electric, Hybrid or Solar Vehicle teams, Mechatronics, or controls focused capstone projects
- Experience working with 12V vehicle electrical systems
- Ability to create, read, and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Strong understanding of vehicle electrical integration, including:
- Power distribution
- Grounding and fusing
- Harness routing and protection
- Working knowledge of CAN communication and vehicle diagnostics
- Hands on electrical troubleshooting experience
- Ability to think at the system level, understanding how electrical, mechanical, and control elements interact
- Experience with wire harness design, routing, and protection
- Exposure to PLC systems, industrial controls, or vehicle automation
- Familiarity with electrical CAD tools (SolidWorks Electrical, ProCable, or similar)
- Mechanical design experience or strong mechanical aptitude
- Telematics, diagnostics, or vehicle data systems experience
- Experience with mixed voltage systems (120V a plus)
- Hands on lab, prototype, or vehicle build experience
- Being bi-lingual is a plus, particularly Spanish
Physical/Mental Requirements Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of the Position:- Normal standing, bending, walking, and lifting in an office, lab, or shop environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and customer facing teams
- Willingness to learn in hands on, sometimes unstructured problem solving environments
- Moderate travel to support vehicle validation or customers as necessary.
