Full Job Description
The Senior Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist will provide technical, program development and management, and implementation support in areas of hazardous waste management, emergency action planning, OSHA compliance, and other EHS-related disciplines related to research labs and office space and personnel. This is an onsite position.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist in overseeing the day-to-day activities for general EHS support onsite (i.e.biological and hazardous waste programs)
• Provide operational support for all EHS programs, including Radiation Safety, Laser Safety and Biosafety programs, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements
• Triage and respond to requests via our internal request tracking system, ServiceNow, in a timely manner.
• Work closely with service vendors, EHS contacts, and lab researchers to ensure compliance.
• Participate on a rotating 24/7 on-call EHS emergency response team.
• Encourage teamwork and focus on practical solutions and problem solving.
• Implement, evaluate, and continually improve EHS Programs (i.e. Ergonomics, Contractors, Orientation, PPE, RPE, Radiation, Lasers, and others) and assess compliance under a variety of federal, state, and local regulations.
• Create new and revised EHS training programs and train personnel accordingly.
• Oversee EHS Representative onboarding and training.
• Maintain our EHS equipment calibration and recordkeeping.
• Participate in the Broad BLOG/EHS Committee. Assist with the planning and development of meeting agendas, presentations and documentation.
• Assist with the Respiratory Protection Program. Manage the oversight of the fit testing equipment, training and written program updates as required by OSHA.
• Complete accident/incident reviews and OSHA recordable injuries and illnesses.
• Supervise the day-to-day activities of any contractors,interns and co-ops. Provide feedback and participate in their performance reviews.
• Other duties as directed by their direct manager, the Director and Associate Director of EHS to meet Broad Institute goals.

Additional Specific Tasks
• Oversight of EHS service vendors
• Conduct general safety orientation training
• Maintain the EHS databases and software systems
• Conduct general EHS inspections and assist in higher-level audits
• Assist with emergency response activities
• Oversee routine equipment certifications
• Maintain EHS supplies and safety stations
• Ensure laboratory compliance to flammable material storage limits and practices
• Coordinate EHS aspects of laboratory decommissioning, moves, and new lab setup
• Perform initial triage fact finding for EHS issues
• Perform routine check-listed EHS tasks
• Management of SOPs and internal EHS documentation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Technical Competencies:
• This position requires general knowledge and basic understanding of environment, health and safety programs and regulations such as OSHA, EPA, DOT, NRC, Massachusetts DPH and DEP, NFPA Codes, Massachusetts Fire Prevention Regulations, and Massachusetts Building Code.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in environment, health and safety programs, and a general knowledge in the recognition, evaluation and control of hazardous materials and physical agents.
• A bachelor's degree in an environment, health and safety related discipline, engineering, physical science, biological science/chemistry, or equivalent experience with emphasis in environment, health and safety is required.
• Specific experience in hazardous waste management or other professional EHS training, advanced degree or certifications a plus.
• Highly proficient computer skills are desirable. The ability to make effective oral presentations and work as part of a team are also important.

The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, qualifications, and other factors permissible by law.
