Full Job Description
The Los Angeles Times is seeking a senior editor for video.

This editor will manage a team of content creators and work with newsroom colleagues and outside talent to create video for the L.A. Times site, YouTube and our social channels, enhancing the company's brand and profile across platforms.

Responsibilities:
  • Assign, create and edit daily videos and longer term projects to work on our website, YouTube and social platforms
  • Oversee a team of content creators and videographers
  • Work with reporters and freelancers on video creation, from directing how to shoot video to helping finalize edits
  • Set up multicam shoots in the office studio or on location
  • Edit video for all formats as needed on the L.A. Times site, YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and TikTok
  • Think strategically about the optimal use of each platform and work on multiple rounds of edits
  • Work with audience engagement staff to promote video content
  • Provide frequent, regular feedback to direct reports on color grading and editing technique
  • Demonstrate a foundational understanding of data and analytics to inform tactical decisions in video strategy
  • Assist with recruiting and hire new staffers, as needed
  • Manage direct reports, including conducting annual performance reviews; holding goal-setting meetings; approving timecards and absence requests; and other tasks
  • May appear on TV or radio on behalf of the L.A. Times and represent the organization at conferences, seminars, professional meetings, and employer-sponsored events

Requirements:
  • At least 10 years' experience in video development and/or production; management experience is a plus
  • Highly skilled in Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere, Photoshop, Media Encoder, Audition)
  • High level of professionalism
  • Ability to work well under time pressure
  • Strong storytelling editorial skills, communication skills and knowledge of journalism ethics and copyright law
  • Ability to work well in a team setting
  • Highly organized and able to work on simultaneous projects and/or tasks in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong mentoring, leadership and collaborative skills
  • Excellent communicator with people in and outside the company
  • Skilled problem solver
  • Very strong sense for pacing, color, music selection and visual language
  • Be willing to travel

This management role will be based in El Segundo, Calif. Occasional night and weekend work is expected. Video journalists must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle in good working condition, with suitable auto insurance coverage.

The pay scale the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of the posting is $121,535.00 to $133,000.00 and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, experience, training, licenses, certifications, and other business or organizational needs. Compensation will be determined based on the above factors along with the requirements of the position. At the L.A.
