Summary
King County Information Technology (KCIT)'s Network Services Department is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to manage enterprise network equipment inventories, licensing, support contracts, and lifecycle workflows. This position is responsible for inventory and asset management for the King County Network Services organization. The work supports the operation and maintenance of the King County Enterprise Network (KC WAN), and Transport and Internet Services Network (INet) by managing equipment, infrastructure, licensing, and support contracts, and operational network support. We're looking for a technical network engineering professional with the ability to interpret low-level network design, configuration, installation, and troubleshooting documents to support LAN and WAN projects across King County.
Job Duties

Manage equipment and network infrastructure inventories

• Order, track, and maintain inventories of network equipment, components, consumables, and related materials.
• Manage contractor work associated with cabling, network equipment installation, and facility remodels.
• Translate business requirements into procurement specifications and network operational needs.
• Ensure network infrastructure aligns with enterprise standards.

Evaluate customer needs and design network solutions

• Conduct needs assessments and consult with internal and external customers.
• Design LAN/WAN or communication solutions build of materials.
• Collaborate with project managers, customers, and engineers.
• Maintain technical documentation and configurations.

Support for service issues or failures

• Respond to network outages or infrastructure failures.
• Participate in incident resolution efforts.

Network lifecycle management

• Support maintenance of routers, switches, wireless, optical, VPN, and remote access technologies.
• Maintain licensing and support agreements.
• Track lifecycle stages of networking hardware.
• Manage consumables inventory such as optics and cabling.

Security, compliance, audit, and optimization

• Support network security initiatives and policy enforcement.
• Participate in compliance documentation and reporting.
• Provide trending and utilization reporting.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

• Wireless network support experience.
• Network licensing and compliance management.
• Software Defined Networking experience
• Ability to plan and deploy enterprise network technologies.
• Ability to interpret technical designs.
• Knowledge of cabling standards, fiber management and critical facilities support.
• Ability to use Visio, Excel, SQL, and collaboration tools.
• Experience creating build of material and estimation documentation.
• Analytical skills for inventory audits and lifecycle reporting.
• Knowledge of network security principles.
• Ability to author and enforce technology standards.
• Expert knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, optical equipment.
• Familiarity with risk analysis and change management.
• Ability to learn new technologies using documentation resources.

Licenses / Certifications

• Valid Washington State Driver's License
• CCNP, CCIE, CISSP, ITIL or similar certifications (Preferred)

Desirable

• Enterprise-level network engineering support and operations
• 2+ years inventory/asset management
• DevOps tools such as Ansible, Docker, Jenkins, etc.

Supplemental Information
Hybrid Work: KCIT works in a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change. The primary onsite location is the Graybar Building, 416 Occidental Ave S, Seattle, WA 98104.

Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment. Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

Work Schedule: The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative schedules may be considered by your manager.
